Ponies Drop Wednesday Night Contest to Reading
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (24-41) dropped game two of a six game set 9-3 against the Reading Fightin' Phils (29-36) on Wednesday night at Mirabito Stadium.
The Fightin's opened the scoring for the second consecutive night with an RBI groundout from Logan O'Hoppe and two-run shot by Jhailyn Ortiz off Ponies starter Jose Chacin (0-3) which put Reading ahead 3-0 in the first. It was Ortiz's 12th homer of the season and his second of the series.
Binghamton clawed back in the fourth by plating three runs courtesy of a two-run double to left field from Jeremy Vasquez scoring Brett Baty and Brandon McIlwain and an RBI double from Zach Ashford scoring McIlwain making it a 4-3 game.
Reading tacked on two in the seventh and three in the eighth which gave them a 9-3 lead.
Josh Ockimey and Aldrem Corredor registered three-hit games for the Fightin's and McKinley Moore (3-2) picked up the win pitching two scoreless innings while giving up two hits and striking out two.
Mitch Ragan pitched four and a third scoreless innings of relief giving up three hits while walking one and striking out five.
The Ponies will continue their six-game homestand against Reading on Thursday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Brett Baty now has the longest hit-streak of the season at 13 games after a single in the fourth… Francisco Alvarez's on-base streak has extended to 17 games after a walk… James McCann went 2-4.
