From the Mets 4 Brewers 0 Post Game Notes 6/14/2022:

Mets: Have won their ninth straight home game, their longest winning streak at Citi Field since they won 10 straight from 7/25 - 8/10/19...Are 19 games over .500, tying a season-high.
  • Picked up their league-leading 10th shutout of the season...Was their first shutout against the Brewers since 5/24/18 and first at home since 4/18/09.
  • Have pitched three consecutive shutouts at home for the fifth time in franchise history (last: May 25-27, 2010 vs. PHI).
  • Are 20-8 at home this season.

Pete Alonso (2-3, 2 RBI, R, BB): Put the Mets on the board with an RBI single in the first...Added an RBI single in the fifth.

  • Has reached base safely in his last nine games, batting .353 (12-34) with 12 RBI during that span.
  • Has 15 multi-RBI games this season...Only Paul Goldschmidt has more (16).

Chris Bassitt (8.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K): Was the third start of his career with 8.0 innings and no runs allowed, his fourth career start of at least 8.0 innings.
  • Has five starts with at least 6.0 innings and three or fewer hits allowed...Is tied with Tony Gonsolin and Kyle Wright for the most such starts this year.
  • Induced a career-high three double plays...Was the first time the Mets turned three double plays this season.

Brian Joura Mets360: "Brandon Nimmo started the game with a double and scored on an RBI single by Pete Alonso, one of two RBIs in the game for the Mets’ first baseman. Alonso now has 59 RBIs on the season, tied for the 15th-most by any Met in the first half of the season."

Mike Vaccaro NY Post: Mets already have shown proven formula to holding off red-hot Braves. "Then just keep it simple: the Mets continue to play terrific baseball. That 5-5 West Coast trip? There isn’t a Mets fan alive who wouldn’t have signed up for 5-5. And Tuesday, the Mets turned in one of their quintessential drip-drip-drip rallies to put a 3-spot on the board early, thanks to a few good bounces and few more great at-bats."

213 Miles From Shea:

NY Post: Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer give Mets positive injury news. "DeGrom, who has not pitched in a game this season because of a stress reaction in his right scapula, threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday before the series opener against the Brewers at Citi Field. Scherzer is scheduled to throw live batting practice Thursday as he works back from the oblique strain he suffered on May 18."

NY Post: Mets introduce technological improvements and plans for Citi field. "The most visible part of the tech face-lift are 4K LED screens distributed throughout the stadium. The Mets currently have four of these 4K LED ribbon boards in right field, which they debuted at the start of the season."

1969

The Mets acquire Donn Clendenon from the Expos in exchange for right-hander Steve Renko, infielder Kevin Collins along with two minor league prospects. The 33 year-old first baseman, who will be named the MVP of this season's Fall Classic, plays a pivotal role, both on the field and in the clubhouse, in the team's world championship.

1977

The Mets trade the 'Franchise,' Tom Seaver, to the Reds for pitcher Pat Zachary, second baseman Doug Flynn, and minor leaguers Steve Henderson and Dan Norman. New York also trades Dave Kingman to the Angels for Bobby Valentine and a minor league player.

1983

The Cardinals trade former MVP Keith Hernandez to the Mets for a pair of right-handed hurlers, Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey. The righties will compile a 21-22 record for the Redbirds, and the Gold Glove first baseman will spend seven seasons in New York, batting .297, playing an instrumental role in the club's World Championship in 1986.

Baseball Reference:

2007 - Julio Franco comes to bat against Roger Clemens. Their combined age is 93 years, 246 days, the oldest pitcher-batter matchup in the major leagues since Rube Walberg and Nick Altrock on October 11933. Franco and Clemens had first faced off on May 151984, 19 months before the Mets' starting left fielder in this game, Carlos Gomez, was even born.

2015: The Mets snap the Blue Jays' 11-game winning streak with a two-run rally in the bottom of the 11th that gives them a 4 - 3 win. Jose Bautista homers twice for Toronto, including a game-tying shot in the top of the 9th, and the Jays take the lead on Dioner Navarro's sacrifice fly in the 11th, but RBI singles by Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the inning give the game to the Mets.
