  • Turned three double plays in consecutive games for the first time since 9/16/14 - 9/17/14.

Starling Marte (1-2): Was removed from tonight's game after being hit by a pitch in the right forearm...X-rays were negative for a fracture...Diagnosed with a right forearm contusion and is considered day-to-day.

NY Post: Mets look all out of sorts in lopsided loss to Brewers as NL East race tightens. "The Mets made Pete Alonso chase three misthrown balls that should have been headed for his glove, repeatedly missed locations on pitches and endured one of their worst innings of the season in a 10-2 loss to the Brewers at Citi Field in front of 25,422 fans who had little to applaud."

Metstradamus: At Their Own Game. "The Mets got got by many of the hallmarks that have defined their success their season. The Brewers scored two first inning runs off of David Peterson, which is something the Mets usually do to teams."

Brian Joura Mets360.com: "Meanwhile, the Mets didn’t do a ton of damage against reigning Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, as they managed just two runs. Jeff McNeil hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and he singled home Brandon Nimmo, who tripled, in the sixth."

Tim Healey Newsday: David Peterson, Jake Reed ineffective as Mets are blown out by Brewers. "The Mets (41-23) have suffered blowout losses in four of their past seven games. Their lead in the NL East has shriveled to four games from 10 1⁄2 games at the start of the month. Second-place Atlanta has won 14 consecutive contests."

NY Post: Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo turning into Gold Glove contender.

Joel Sherman NY Post: There is no diminishing what Mets’ Pete Alonso is on pace to do. Alonso is not just some bystander in this matter. He leads the NL in RBI with 59 after a 10-2 loss Wednesday night to the Brewers. That has him on pace for 152, which among other things, would smash the Met record of 124 held by Mike Piazza (1999) and David Wright (2008). That was a pace for the most in the NL since Sammy Sosa drove in 160 in 2001.

1997

At Yankee Stadium, the Mets beat their crosstown rivals, 6-0, in the first-ever regular-season game between the two teams. Dave Mlicki throws a complete-game shutout, blanking the Bronx Bombers on nine hits. You Tube Link.

2003

Dontrelle Willis throws a complete-game one-hit shutout in the Marlins' 1-0 win over the Mets at Pro Player Stadium. The D-Train's victory, which improves his record to 6-1, marks the start of the baseball world taking notice of the high-kicking southpaw phenom, who goes on to win the Rookie of the Year.

Baseball Reference:

2010: The Mets continue their roller-coaster season, winning their 6th in a row with an 8 - 4 decision over Cleveland. All nine Mets starters collect at least one hit and either score or drive in a run. Shelley Duncan, making a rare start in LF for the Indians, helps out with some poor defensive play but does atone himself somewhat with a two-run homer off winner Jon Niese.

2011: The Braves beat the Mets, 9 - 8, on an anticlimactic play in the 10th inning. After rallying from two runs down in the bottom of the 9th on Brooks Conrad's two-run homer off closer Francisco Rodriguez, the Braves take advantage of a balk by reliever D.J. Carrasco that allows Diory Hernandez to score the winning run. Before coming back, the Braves blow a 6 - 2 lead by giving up a four-run 5th inning to the Mets. Chipper Jones drives in 5 runs, tying a career best.

2013: Seemingly asleep for 8 innings, the Mets suddenly wake up in the bottom of the 9th as Carlos Marmol is trying to protect a 3 - 0 lead for the CubsMarlon Byrd starts off the inning with a solo homer, Lucas Duda draws a walk and John Buck singles. Omar Quintanilla bunts both runners into scoring position before Kirk Nieuwenhuis, hitting .097 for the season, connects for a walk-off three-run homer. Marmol is only pitching because closer Kevin Gregg, who has been perfect in 10 save opportunities so far, is unavailable after pitching in the Cubbies' last four games.
