Box ScoreBINGHAMTON, NY – Christian Koss's two-run home run to left field off Ponies reliever Antonio Santos (2-2) gave the Sea Dogs a 5-4 lead in a five-run eighth and they went on to defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 7-4 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium.
Portland (8-2, 38-41) scored seven unanswered runs in the eighth and ninth inning. Kole Cottam's three run homer got the Sea Dogs on the board to make it 4-3 and then an Izzy Wilson RBI triple paired with a Wil Dalton RBI double gave Portland a 7-4 lead in the ninth.
Ponies starter Jose Butto pitched seven dominant innings giving up just three hits and a run paired with a walk and eight strikeouts in a no-decision.
Brett Baty opened the scoring with an opposite field solo homer in the third, his 11th of the season, to put the Ponies ahead 1-0. Binghamton (3-7, 31-48) added three more in the seventh with a sacrifice fly from Matt Winaker and a two-run home run from Brandon McIlwain.
Portland starter Jay Groome pitched six innings scattering five hits and a run while walking one and striking out seven.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their series against Portland on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.
