Game Recap: Ponies Fall 3-1 in Sunday Pitcher’s Duel

BINGHAMTON, NY – Rumble Ponies starter Jose Chacin and Sea Dogs starter Brian Van Belle each pitched seven strong innings, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-9, 31-50) dropped their sixth straight game 3-1 against the Portland Sea Dogs (10-2, 40-41) on Sunday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium.

Chacin (0-6) pitched seven innings giving up four hits and two runs while striking out nine and Van Belle (4-1) countered with seven scoreless innings giving up three hits and striking out five earning the win.

Izzy Wilson put the Sea Dogs ahead 1-0 in the fourth with an RBI single scoring Christian Koss. Wilson then scored the final two Portland runs on a Stephen Scott fielder's choice in the seventh and Scott's RBI double in the ninth.

The Ponies threatened in the ninth as Luke Ritter drove home Wyatt Young on an RBI double to right but Ryan Fernandez was able to lock down his second save of the season.

The Ponies will begin a series with the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday evening at UPMC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 5:50 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Chacin tied his season high in strikeouts with nine… Ritter went 2-4 with an RBI… Matt Winaker and Jeremy Vasquez each had a hit.
