Game Recap and Highlights: Ponies Big Offensive Night Leads to Rout of Sea Dogs

PORTLAND, ME – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies opened up their final road series of the year with a commanding 10-2 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (36-22, 66-61) at Hadlock Field Tuesday night. The Ponies had a pair of four-run innings, 15 hits, and three home runs as part of their big offensive night.

Binghamton (23-33, 51-74) began the scoring in the first on a Luke Ritter RBI single that drove home Wyatt Young. In the fourth, Jeremy Vasquez hit an RBI double off the right field wall to make it 2-0 Ponies. Two batters later, Young stepped to the plate and drilled a three-run homer into the Sea Dogs bullpen in right center field to give the Ponies a 5-0 lead and cap off the four-run frame. Young finished 3-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

Binghamton would add on in the eighth as Vasquez hit an RBI single to make it 6-1. The next batter, Nic Gaddis launched a three-run homer off the left center field scoreboard breaking the game open making it 9-1 Ponies and completing their second four-run inning. In the ninth, Rowdey Jordan hit a solo homer over the Maine Monster to make it 10-2 Binghamton. Jordan ended the night 3-5 with three runs scored.

Jose Chacin (4-8) continued his run of excellent starts as he allowed one run on six hits over seven innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. It's the fourth straight start Chacin has gone at least six innings and not allowed more than two earned runs. It is also his fourth victory in his last five appearances.

Sterling Sharp (1-1) took the loss allowing five hits and was charged with four runs over three and two thirds innings.

The two teams continue their series on Wednesday night with first pitch at 6:00 PM and pregame coverage getting underway at 5:45 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Vasquez finished 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBI…Hayden Senger was 2-5 with a run scored for his second straight multi-hit game…each member of the Rumble Ponies lineup had at least one hit…Young's homer was his fifth of the year and Gaddis home run was his second.
