Tidwell fires 3.0 scoreless innings in 4th start
FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 6, 2022) – The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels shut out the St. Lucie Mets 5-0 at Hammond Stadium on Tuesday night. (Box Score)
The game was a scoreless tie at the seventh inning stretch. The Mussels proceeded to score all five of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Keoni Cavaco crushed a 390-foot two-run homer off MiLB rehabber Carlos Ocampo to put Fort Myers on the board.
The Mussels then loaded the bases against Ocampo, who was replaced by Kolby Kubichek. Noah Cardenas ripped a three-run double down the left field line to make it 5-0.
Three Mussels pitchers combined for the two-hit shutout. Twins pitcher Bailey Ober (right groin) made a MLB rehab start and pitched the first four innings. He allowed one single and one walk while striking out three.
Develson Aria made his Fort Myers debut and pitched two hitless innings.
Jackson Hicks (5-3) got the win by pitching the final three innings. He gave up one hit and struck out five.
Mets starter Blade Tidwell, the Mets second round pick out of Tennessee, pitched his best game for St. Lucie. He fired three shutout innings and struck out five. Tidwell did not walk a batter and retired seven in a row to end his night.
Douglas Orellana pitched the middle three inning scoreless. He wiggled out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the fourth inning.
Ocampo (0-1) took the loss. He allowed five runs and three hits in 0.2 innings.
The only hits for the Mets were singles by Carlos Dominguez and Chase Estep.
The Mets (71-54, 31-29) and Mighty Mussels (67-57, 26-34) play game 2 of their series at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is 7:00 p.m.
