Game Recap: St. Lucie Mets beat Jupiter 8-3 in regular season home finale

St. Lucie finishes 43-21 at Clover Park

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (September 4, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets won their final home game of the regular season at Clover Park with an 8-3 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Sunday.

The Mets finished 43-21 at Clover Park this season and won the season series vs. Jupiter 14-13. The Mets will be back at Clover Park for game 2 of the FSL East Division championship series on Thursday, Sept. 15.

On Sunday, the Mets walked their way to a win. Batting in the bottom of the seventh of a 3-3 game, the Mets worked six walks from Jupiter pitchers Dale Stanavich and Yeuris Jimenez and scored five runs to break the game open.

After Stanavich walked the bases loaded with one out, Junior Tilien worked a 12-pitch plate appearance for a walk to force home Raul Beracierta for the go-ahead run.

Chase Estep then knocked a two-run single off Jimenez to make it 6-3 Mets. Jimenez plunked D’Andre Smith to reload the bases before walking Carlos Dominguez to force in the fourth run of the inning. Two batters later Jimenez walked Beracierta to bring home a run that pushed the Mets lead to 8-3.

Joshua Cornielly, who surrendered a two-run game tying homer to Cameron Barstad in the top of the seventh, bounced back with a scoreless eighth inning to pick up the win.

Dylan Tebrake closed out the ninth with two strikeouts.

Mets starter Joander Suarez held the Hammerheads to one run on five hits over four innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Lefty Felipe De La Cruz made his team debut and pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Smith went 2 for 3 with a solo home run.

Mets first round pick Kevin Parada had his best day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, two walks and two RBI.

The Mets (71-53, 31-28) are off on Monday. They return to the diamond on Tuesday when they begin the final series of the regular season on the road against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. First pitch from Hammond Stadium on Tuesday is 7:00 p.m.
