Good Morning. Happy Birthday Former Syracuse Met Ervin Santana. More discussion on the Mets moves as Mike Puma says they still not done, and Ronny Mauricio and Edgardo Escobar continue play in Winter Ball.

"The free-agent market includes names such as Michael Brantley, Andrew Benintendi and Michael Conforto, all of whom would bring a left-handed bat."

Keith Law The Athletic: Kodai Senga scouting report – What the Mets can expect from the pitcher. "Senga, 29, certainly looks the part of a potential No. 2 starter, with a fastball that has hit triple digits and a probable out pitch in his splitter. He has four pitches, with a slider that earns grades from 40 to 55 from scouts and a curveball that at least looks like it could be an average weapon. He was very successful as a starter in Japan, finishing second in ERA in the Pacific League last year, behind the best pitcher in Japan in Yoshinobu Yamamoto, while finishing third in strikeouts. ESPN:
- The Mets are spending a whole lot of money, but are they getting any better? About Senga they say: "His breaking stuff is considered just OK, and his command can be a little shaky, as he averaged 3.1 walks allowed per nine innings last season, but given the overall quality of his stuff and the success other top Japanese pitchers have had coming over to the majors, he projects at least as a solid midrotation starter with perhaps even more upside than that."
I reject the “Mets aren’t any better” narrative.

deGrom (11 starts)
➡️ Verlander (Cy Young)
McCann (.538 OPS)
➡️ Álvarez (No. 1 prospect in MLB)
Rodríguez (4.47 ERA)
➡️ Raley (2.68 ERA)
Bassitt (3.42 ERA)
Walker (3.49 ERA)
➡️ Senga (1.89 ERA in Japan)
➡️ Quintana (2.93 ERA)
It's still unofficial, but the Mets right now expect their entire starting infield (Alonso, McNeil, Lindor, Escobar) to be absent for part of spring training to compete in the World Baseball Classic.

1975 | The Tigers trade pitcher Mickey Lolich and outfielder Billy Baldwin to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Rusty Staub and pitcher Bill Laxton. New York's new southpaw will post an 8-13 record, spending just one year in the Big Apple, while Detroit will enjoy a steady performance from their recently acquired flycatcher and DH, who will bat .275 during his three-plus seasons in the Motor City. |
2007 | Paul Lo Duca and the Nationals agree to a $5 million, one-year deal that puts the former Mets catcher behind Washington's home plate. The free-agent backstop became expendable and much-needed in the same instance when New York dealt Lastings Milledge to get the Nats starting catcher, Brian Schneider. |
2008 | The Mets, reeling from their second consecutive season-ending collapse, continue to overhaul their much-maligned bullpen, which had 29 blown saves in 72 chances (40%). Scott Schoeneweis joins Joe Smith and Aaron Heilman in becoming the latest New York reliever to be traded as the southpaw is dealt to the Diamondbacks for Connor Robertson, a right-hander acquired by Arizona in the Dan Haren deal. |
12/12/2005 The Mets sign 36-year-old José Valentín to a minor league contract. Valentín, who was originally signed as a bench piece, hit .271 with 18 homers in 137 games for the Mets in 2006. pic.twitter.com/GlEGjVAA31
