FLUSHING, N.Y., December 22, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced the club has signed infielder Danny Mendick to a one-year contract. In addition, the club agreed to terms on a one-year contract with LHP Joey Lucchesi, avoiding arbitration and released RHP Yoan López.
Mendick, 29, hit .289/.343/.443 with three homers and 15 RBI in 31 games for the Chicago White Sox last season. He was placed on the 10-day Injured List on June 23 with a torn ACL and missed the remainder of the 2022 campaign.
The Rochester, NY native has hit .251/.309/.366 with 13 doubles, two triples, 10 homers and 45 RBI in 151 career major league games (all with the White Sox).
Lucchesi, 29, missed most of the 2022 season after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He went 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA (three ER/12.2 IP) in eight games with St. Lucie (Low-A), Binghamton (AA) and Syracuse (AAA) last year.
Lucchesi is 19-24 with a 4.24 ERA (159 ER/337.2 IP) with 349 strikeouts over the parts of four years in the majors with the Padres and Mets.
