Kodai Senga will not pitch for Japan in the WBC. That was considered up in the air
— Joe DeMayo (@PSLToFlushing) January 26, 2023
Instead he will spend spring in St. Lucie getting used to his new organization
NY Post: ‘Japanese ace’ Kodai Senga will be talk of Mets this spring. "In an effort to get a jump on understanding Senga, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, bullpen coach Dom Chiti and director of pitching development Eric Jagers traveled to Seattle within the last two weeks to watch the right-hander throw and to begin building a rapport with him...Senga was accustomed to pitching once a week on a regular day...throwing 135-140 pitches in each outing."
Mets are adding to their organizational catching depth, bringing back Michael Perez, who appeared in six games for them last season.

MLB Trade Rumors: Mets To Sign Michael Perez To Minor League Deal. "Perez will give them an experienced option to have in Triple-A should they need it at some point. If he gets back onto the roster, he still has an option year remaining and will give the Mets some roster flexibility."

Among those under consideration for the No. 3 role on Mets radio broadcasts is Patrick McCarthy, whose father Tom is the Voice of the Phillies (and Howie Rose’s former partner in the Mets radio booth). The No. 3 voice will call games on road trips from which Rose is absent.

- Mets 2023 projections: Max Scherzer. Brian Joura once again does an excellent job noting: "Father Time is undefeated and the thing with older pitchers is that they can fall off the cliff at any moment. Just because Scherzer has been outstanding in his last 35 starts doesn’t mean he will continue to pitch at an elite level." His projection for Max: "183 IP, 2.58 ERA, 0.915 WHIP, 203 Ks, 16 HR". I will sign up for that. (Subscription required)
