SNY.TV: Justin Verlander 'very excited' for Mets chapter of MLB career. Verlander thanked Buck Showalter, Steve and Alex Cohen during BBWAA awards dinner.
CBS Sports: Mets' Justin Verlander, Marlins' Sandy Alcantara receive Cy Young Award plaques with spelling mistake. The two best pitchers in baseball are the most 'valuble' at their position. It is likely that the mistake was in part due to a change of wording on the Cy Young Award plaque. In previous years, the plaque had read "most outstanding pitcher" before being changed to "most valuable."
SNY.TV: Mets sign 1B Dariel Gomez to minor league contract: report. Gomez led Northwest League with 26 home runs in 2022.

1962 - The New York Mets sign Gil Hodges for $33,000. The veteran first baseman had been languishing on the Dodgers' bench for the past two seasons.
1984 - After failing to trade him, the New York Mets give veteran slugger Dave Kingman his release. Kingman hit .198 with 13 home runs last year, but will find a new home as designated hitter with the Oakland Athletics, hitting 35 home runs this year, ranking second behind American League leader Tony Armas, who will finish with 43.
