PRESS RELEASE: NEW YORK METS TO HOST BLOOD DRIVE JANUARY 11 AT CITI FIELD

The New York Mets along with New York Blood Center (NYBC) will host their annual Winter Blood Drive on Wednesday, January 11 from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Piazza Club at Citi Field

Fans donating blood will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select Monday - Thursday Mets home game during the 2023 season with exclusions and based on availability.

The past few years have been challenging for the blood supply. The region's blood supply currently stands at a 2-3 day level, which is well below the ideal level of 5-7 days. NYBC faced five blood emergencies in 2022 and the past two years have brought chronic blood shortages nationwide. Hospitals and patients rely upon a steady flow of volunteer donors to receive life-saving donations, but donations have still not returned to pre-pandemic levels. In recent months, the "tripledemic" of increasing RSV, Flu and COVID-19 cases has created a new concern for the blood supply, as fear of getting sick is causing donors with upcoming appointments to cancel.

NYBC encourages all who are able to make an appointment to donate today, especially as we head into the winter months, when holiday vacations, travel and inclement weather make it even more difficult to turnout blood donors. One blood donation has the ability to save up to three lives.

Donors must be 16 years of age (with parental consent), weigh at least 110 lbs. and be in good health. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they're experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory infection or flu-like symptoms. Additional information on donor eligibility and COVID-19 precautions is available here.

Mr. and Mrs. Met will be in attendance from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Piazza Club at Citi Field. Fans may park in Lot G off Seaver Way and enter through the Hodges VIP entrance.
