The Mets are eventually going to have some tough decisions with veterans Yacabonis, Sam Coonrod, John Curtiss and Tommy Hunter all still unscored upon in Grapefruit League play.
Tylor Megill talks about learning from Max Scherzer:
— SNY (@SNYtv) March 13, 2023
"The way he pitches, he saves some in the gas tank when he needs it and he's able to stretch it out and go the distance." pic.twitter.com/fJNSooRzYu
"I don't have to reinvent the wheel here, I just have to get my reps in and get my work in"

- Max Scherzer, who threw in a Triple-A start today pic.twitter.com/3EI6ddDbam
Max Scherzer feels that the World Baseball Classic should be held during the season instead of during spring training:
— SNY (@SNYtv) March 13, 2023
"I'm not ready to step into a quasi-playoff game right now. If I do that, I'm rolling the dice with my arm." pic.twitter.com/eOPAxEVYGL
Source: Bryce Montes de Oca's MRI today showed no ligament damage. He's been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his elbow and will refrain from throwing for a couple weeks, but has otherwise avoided the worst.

Billy Eppler called a New York Post report that José Quintana will be shut down from throwing for three months "premature." Says the Mets are still talking to doctors and will have information finalized by midweek.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) March 13, 2023
However, Eppler did not directly deny the report's veracity.

David Robertson made a successful Grapefruit League debut today, needing just 10 pitches to throw a perfect inning with one strikeout.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) March 13, 2023
Robertson, much like Brandon Nimmo, took a slow route into games because he knew he did not need an entire month to prepare for the season.
📸 Max Scherzer allowed five runs (three earned) over parts of five innings in a minors game this afternoon. Three of the innings ended prematurely due to pitch count.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) March 13, 2023
Scherzer had agreed to pitch on a back field so that Tylor Megill (4 IP, 0 ER) could throw in the "A" game. pic.twitter.com/waxtCKxJic
Max Scherzer's remaining spring schedule has him pitching March 18 and 23 against HOU and ATL, then taking one extra rest day before the regular season.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) March 13, 2023
That lines Scherzer up to be the Mets' Opening Day starter March 30 in Miami.
