Per Monday's Game Notes: The Mets were off yesterday. They resume play today at home today at 1:10 against Houston on SNY. They will then be on the road to play Atlanta tomorrow and Tampa Bay on Friday before finishing the Spring schedule at home against St. Louis on Saturday and Miami on Sunday.
The WBC ended last night with Japan beating USA 3-2. Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil only played sparingly for USA. Hopefully, that will not deter from their preparation for the regular season which starts a week from tomorrow in Miami.
From the WBC Stats: Pete Alonso, last year's MLB RBI leader, played 5 of the 7 games - mostly as the Right Handed DH and as a PH with 14 plate appearances. Pete's final WBC numbers - .143/.200/143, 1 RBI, 2 hits - both singles, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 4 Ks;
Jeff McNeil - 2B and some OF - 13 plate appearances - .111/.385/.111 - 1 hit, 2 runs scored, 4 walks;
Adam Ottavino - 2 games, 2 innings, no runs, no hits, 1 walk, 3 Ks;
Yesterday the Mets sent a Press Release about the new speakeasy at Citi Field - The Cadillac Club at Payson's. "The club is named after Joan Whitney Payson, the Mets first owner and a pioneer...With only 100 seats in the club and limited to 25-30 members, the exclusive membership to The Cadillac Club at Payson's includes assigned seats for every Mets home game, complimentary parking and complimentary food, soft drinks, beer and wine. Members will also have access to a private bar for cocktails." You can see drawings of what the club will look like by clicking here.
USA Today: Mets launch Citi Field Cadillac Club, $25K for top seat.
NJ.com: $24,999 a seat? Mets’ billionaire owner is trying to attract millionaire fans. Seats in this section of CitiField will cost $25,000 when Mets open the 2023 season.
Tim Healey Newsday: Brett Baty's spring training epiphany: There's no rush at third base. “'He’s a big-league third baseman,' said [Bench coach Eric] Chavez...'All of a sudden, his hands got softer, his eyes got softer...'I was like, whatever it is that you got, you got it. It’s there. And he’s made every play since.'"
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Tough decisions await Buck Showalter with five Grapefruit League games remaining. Abbey talks about Brett Baty and the Mets bullpen noting "There is some optimism that Nimmo could be healthy for Opening Day but as of right now, it’s still unclear. Left-handed reliever Brooks Raley is the only one of the injured players expected to be ready by March 30."
