SNY.TV: Mets takeaways from Saturday's 15-4 win over Marlins: Justin Verlander was extremely efficient in his Grapefruit League debut. The only damage against him was a two-out Jean Segura RBI double in the bottom of the first...threw 35 pitches, 28 of which were strikes...Jaylin Davis, who the Mets recently signed to a minor league deal, continued his strong start reaching base three times.
Fox Sports: "A big leaguer since 2006, Verlander is experimenting with a changeup for the first time. 'The first one felt great,' he said. 'I loved the swing and miss. The second (the batter) hit right back at me, so I didn’t like that. But he didn’t hit that hard.'"

"Escy's the man... he's taken me under his wing ever since I got called up last year. All I do with him is listen, listen listen, soak up as much information as possible." pic.twitter.com/NfsAcNp4Zv
Mark Vientos says he was joking with Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio that he needed to get himself a home run soon.

NY Post:
- Mark Vientos the
latest Mets prospect to show out with pair of towering homers - "
Against lefty Jesus Luzardo, the righty-hitting Vientos smacked a 107.7-mph single up the middle in the first inning. After striking out in the third inning, he homered to dead center in the fourth and fifth innings against a pair of righties, Justin Evans and Dylan Floro. His second, in particular, was a no-doubter, traveling an estimated 469 feet." - MLB already
cracks down on Max Scherzer’s attempt to exploit pitch clock "
Major League Baseball’s league-wide email, delivered late Friday night, highlighted the fact that a quick pitch is an illegal pitch...Batters must be “in the box and alert to the pitcher” by the 8-second mark of the pitch clock (or else face an automatic strike)...The league has instructed umpires to be wary of pitchers trying to time the delivery of the pitch to coincide with that 8-second mark." - Different
uniform, same Justin Verlander in Mets debut: ‘Pretty cool’
- Mets’ Alex Ramirez impressing on defense: "While top prospects Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio are mostly known for their offense, outfielder Alex Ramirez has impressed with his speed and glove in center, which Buck Showalter pointed out. 'He glides out there,’ the manager said after Ramirez made another nice play in a 15-4 win over Miami at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla."
Mets.com:
- For slow and steady Nimmo, 'it's all about building' "The Mets have played more than a week’s worth of Grapefruit League games, but [Nimmo] has yet to appear in any...Last year, when a Major League Baseball lockout shortened Spring Training by several weeks, Nimmo realized that the truncated Grapefruit League schedule didn’t affect his ability to gear up for a season. More than that, he responded with a career-high 151 games in the regular season, leading him to believe that the reduced spring workload helped him stay healthy."
- At long last, Coonrod pitching pain-free "Not until last spring did Coonrod finally receive word that what he thought was a nagging bout of biceps tendinitis was actually a partially torn rotator cuff. He managed to avoid surgery, but he spent the bulk of the summer rehabbing, which allowed his shoulder to heal naturally...The former Phillies and Giants reliever has struck out four batters over two scoreless innings this spring, hitting 99 mph on the radar gun."
- Injuries & Moves: Marte scheduled for Grapefruit debut "Marte underwent Nov. 1 surgery to repair both sides of his groin, where tendons had detached from his core muscles...His Grapefruit League debut is scheduled for March 10, which should give him plenty of time to be ready in advance of Opening Day."
