Mets Links:

Box Score: Padres 4 Mets 2 Francisco Lindor, 1 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 Ks (Per FANGRAPHS now with a 31.4% K% - 16 Ks in 51 plate appearances - on pace to K 222 times in 2023); Mark Canha DH 0 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 K; Tommy Pham LF 1 for 4, 1 RBI;

  • Mets: Move to 3-2 on the homestand.
  • David Peterson (5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K): Has allowed three or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts at home dating back to June 20, 2022.
  • Brandon Nimmo (0-2, 2 BB): Leads the majors with 12 walks this season. Has reached base in eight of his first 17 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers this season.

Metstradamus: The Urge To Generally Manage Is Swelling. "This one was on the offense, who couldn’t get much going against lefty Ryan Weathers as they only touched him up for a very lonely sacrifice fly in the 4th for a 1-0 lead."

Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets made it interesting in the ninth inning but could not overcome the two-run homer allowed by Dennis Santana in the top of the inning. They scored one off Josh Hader and had two runners on base but the rally came up short, with the Padres escaping with a 4-2 win Tuesday night at Citi Field."

NY Post: David Peterson makes another solid case to stay in Mets' rotation. "After cruising through four innings, Peterson ran into his only trouble in the fifth, when he gave up a two-run double to Manny Machado."

Will Sammon and Tim Britton The Athletic: "If Verlander makes his Mets debut before the end of April, it’s likely to happen late in the month during New York’s next homestand. Verlander (right teres major strain) will head to the Mets’ complex in Port St. Lucie when the team heads to California this week for a 10-game road trip" (Subscription required)

1962

In front of 40,000 fans, the expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, along with broadcasters and other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the enthusiastic crowd as they drive by.

1986

In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

2009

A pair of tickets for the Mets home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats were owned by Bernard Madoff, who is in jail after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.
