AP Sports: “Soto signed a record $765 million, 15-year contract to leave the Yankees and join the Mets, who totaled $1.36 billion in payroll and luxury tax over four years under owner Steve Cohen but remain without a title since 1986. New York is 41-22 in openers, at .651 the best winning percentage of any franchise. After losing their first eight, the Mets have won 41 of their last 55. Holmes left the Yankees for a $38 million, three-year deal with the Mets and will make his first start since 2018 with Pittsburgh. Framber Valdez will be on the mound for the Astros."

NY Post: Clay Holmes’ Mets Opening Day start is a realfull-circle moment. “Clay Holmes opened the season last year in Houston. That’s about the only similarity from then to now. Since that Opening Day with the Yankees against the Astros, he’s switched uniforms and jobs in about as stark a way as possible.”

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets round out Opening Day roster withseveral fun stories. “Team officials rounded out the day one roster on Wednesday with a trio of players who are not guaranteed long stays but come with fun stories: infielder Brett Baty, catcher Hayden Senger, reliever Max Kranick… Senger, who turns 28 next week, will be the Mets’ backup catcher in his first time in the majors — after seven years in the minors. He has slowly climbed the ladder since he was a 24th-round draft pick in 2018, never hitting much but impressing Mets officials across regimes with his defensive ability.”

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Luisangel Acuña makes MetsOpening Day roster. “The Mets have spent the last week searching for infield help, but with less than 24 hours before Opening Day, the club opted to use Luisangel Acuña, a source confirmed to the Daily News.”

NY Post: Paul Blackburn injury the latest hit to Mets’pitching depth with Opening Day roster now set. “Instead of heading to the bullpen, Paul Blackburn will start the season on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Wednesday.”

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Francisco Alvarez, the catcher without fear, is ready for his star turn. “Francisco Alvarez, the Mets’ catcher without fear, might be their next star. He feels ready for what figures to be a critical year in his development and ascent, even if that has to wait another month or so as he recovers from surgery after breaking the hamate bone in his left hand. “I think I can be the best catcher in baseball,” said Alvarez…“I really think I have the potential to be the best catcher in baseball.”

NY Post: SNY trio previews the 2025 Mets with The Post — where theythink Amazin’s stack up in tight NL East. Steve Serby talks to Gary, Keith and Ron about Juan Soto, the Mets Pitching, 2025 outlook, team speed with Keith saying this about the lineup: “Q: Is this the best lineup in baseball? Keith: It’s certainly right there. I think it was critical that [Pete] Alonso was re-signed. You brought in [Juan] Soto I had dinner with [Mike] Rizzo, the general manager of the Nationals, in Florida one night and he said that Soto’s the best offensive player in the game, even over [Shohei] Ohtani. But, if they hadn’t brought Pete back, it just would hove been a trade-off.”

Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: NL East preview 2025: Predictingwhere Mets will finish in three-team race. "1. Mets...O/U Wins: 90.5…Key Player: Juan Soto. Who else?...Player who’ll need to step up: Francisco Alvarez…Biggest question mark: The rotation” (subscription required)

Mike Puma NY Post Sports+: Mets 2025 season preview:Projected lineup, rotation, MLB prediction as Juan Soto raises expectations. “Mets season prediction 92-70 (second place in NL East and wild-card berth) The lineup has the potential to be the best in Mets history, but it’s hard to get too excited about this starting rotation. Even so, it’s probably deep enough to get the Mets back into the postseason.” (subscription required)

Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: The Steve Cohen adjustment thatchanged everything about Juan Soto pursuit. “The first time occurred at the first of three rounds of bidding, when the Mets offered about $492 million….Cohen was surprised when Soto’s agent Scott Boras called to say he wasn’t in the ballpark…Cohen resolved then to ditch the projections of his “baseball people” and stay in the ballgame…“I had to adjust my thinking,” Cohen said. He adjusted it, and adjusted it yet again.” (subscription required)
