BOX SCORE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (May 26, 2023) - Tied at two runs apiece in the bottom of ninth, 1B José Mena swatted a line drive to left field to plate 2B Chase Estep for the walk-off win, 3-2, over the Winston Salem Dash on Friday night at Maimonides Park.

With the win, the Cyclones have now taken three of the first four games of the series, and have won seven of the last nine contests.

RHP Jeffrey Colón logged 6.2 innings of two-run ball. The right-hander set a career-high in strikeouts with nine. The Brooklyn bullpen also dazzled, as LHP Quinn Brodey and RHP Jace Beck combined for 2.1 innings of hitless relief with five strikeouts.

Winston-Salem checked into the box score first in the top of the second. DH Shawn Goosenberg doubled home RF Wilfred Veras. Moments later, C Michael Turner knocked in 3B Wes Kath on an RBI groundout.

Brooklyn countered in the home third when Mena came home to score on an error in the field by 2B Loidel Chapellí. Mena was involved one inning later as well when Brooklyn pulled even, doubling home Estep to tie the game.

From then on, it was all zeros on the scoreboard until the home ninth. Estep scorched the first pitch of the home ninth for a triple. The very next batter, Mena provided the heroics with his walk-off RBI single. The win is Brooklyn’s fourth of the walk-off variety this season.

The Cyclones return to action tomorrow at Maimonides Park against the Dash at 6:00 p.m. RHP Christian Scott (0-0, 4.66 ERA) toes the rubber for the ‘Clones, where he’ll oppose RHP Andrew Dalquist (0-3, 7.08 ERA).
