AKRON, OH – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies ended the first half of the regular season falling to the Akron RubberDucks 5-3 on Sunday Afternoon at Canal Park. Binghamton finishes the first half at 35-34. The Rumble Ponies took four of the seven games in the series.
Akron (35-34) scored all five of their runs in the second inning against Landon Marceaux (0-1), who was making his New York Mets organizational debut after being acquired in a trade with the Angels Friday night.
The RubberDucks runs came courtesy of an Aaron Bracho RBI single, Michael Berglund two-run double, and Jose Tena two-run single.
Binghamton would get on the board against RHP Tommy Mace in the sixth inning on a Jose Peroza RBI single. In the seventh, Branden Fryman's two-run double cut the deficit to 5-3. Mace though would retire the next seven batters to close out the game and earn the save.
Mace was pitching in relief of Cleveland Guardians RHP Cal Quantrill, who was making a rehab start with Akron. Quantrill allowed three hits over five scoreless frames.
The Rumble Ponies bullpen was outstanding. Daniel Juarez, Luis Moreno, and Tyler Thomas combined to pitch six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and one walk. Moreno surrendered just two hits and one walk over four innings.
The Rumble Ponies are off Monday and Tuesday before opening a six-game series with the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies Double-A Affiliate) on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 6:35 PM and the NYCM Insurance Pregame Show begins at 6:20 PM.
Postgame Notes: Rowdey Jordan had a multi-hit game and scored a run…Fryman extended his hitting streak to five games.
