BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1-2, 36-36) chipped away at their deficit, but ultimately fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 4-3 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium. The Yard Goats have taken two of the first three games this series.
Hartford
(2-1, 31-39) got on the board when Jack Blomgren hit a leadoff solo home run to
start the game against Junior Santos.
Up
1-0 in the second inning, the Yard Goats scored again on a sacrifice fly from
Drew Romo to make it 2-0.
The
Ponies responded in the bottom of the second when Branden Fryman hit a triple
and Warren Saunders drove him in on a groundout on the next pitch to cut the
deficit to 2-1.
Hartford
continued to add to its lead in the third and fourth on Yanquiel Fernandez’s
solo homer and Blomgren’s RBI single, respectively, which extended the lead to
4-1.
Binghamton
chipped away with two home runs in the fifth inning. Jaylen Palmer tallied the
first hit of his Double-A career with a leadoff solo home run in the frame,
which cut the deficit to 4-2. Later in the inning, Jose Peroza hit his 10th
home run of the season with a solo shot to left, which made it 4-3.
Both
teams went scoreless the rest of the game after the bottom of the fifth.
Binghamton’s three relievers combined to throw four scoreless frames with four
punch outs. Hartford’s four relief pitchers also combined to throw four
scoreless frames with four strikeouts.
Both
bullpens allowed two hits and one walk with four strikeouts, respectively.
The
Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Yard Goats on Saturday night.
First pitch is set for 6:07 PM and pregame coverage gets underway at 5:50 PM on
the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame
Notes: Fryman extended his hitting streak to eight games with two
triples… The Ponies had the potential winning run on base in the ninth, but
could not score.
