BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1-3, 36-37) fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 5-2 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium. The Ponies have dropped three-straight games and three of the first four games in this series.
Jose Chacin made the start for Binghamton, and for the second-straight start he threw three perfect frames to begin his outing. Hartford (3-1, 32-39) then scored three runs in the fourth inning off Chacin, highlighted by a two-run double from Hunter Goodman.
Down 3-0 in the sixth, the Ponies cut the deficit to one run. Jaylen Palmer smoked a one-out single and Wyatt Young followed with a walk. Rowdey Jordan then cranked a two-run double off the wall to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Hartford added some late insurance runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Julio Carreras and Jose Peroza's throwing error that allowed Colin Simpson to score to make it 5-2.
Daniel Juarez tossed 1.1 scoreless frames in relief with a strikeout and Nolan Clenney pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Hartford's bullpen combined to throw 3.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while allowing one hit.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Yard Goats on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM and pregame coverage gets underway at 12:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame Notes: Jordan hit his 12th double of the season and tallied his 34th and 35th runs batted in on the year…Branden Fryman extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single in the ninth inning…Palmer recorded a hit and a run for the second-straight game.
