Game Recap: Lowe, Hammerheads Shut Out S. Lucie Mets 5-0



Coonrod pitches scoreless inning on MLB rehab assignment

 

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 16, 2023) – The Jupiter Hammerheads shut out the St. Lucie Mets 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at Clover Park to salvage a three-game series Box Score).

 

Jupiter starter Collin Lowe was efficient over 6.1 innings. He scattered three hits, did not walk a batter, struck out five and threw just 64 pitches.

 

Dale Stanavich pitched 2.1 innings and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth. Riskiel Tineo pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game in a non-save situation.

 

Sam Coonrod (lat) made the start for St. Lucie on a MLB rehab assignment. He worked around a two out double to pitch a scoreless first inning. He struck out one batter.

 

Felipe De La Cruz pitched 5.0 innings of excellent ball behind Coonrod. He gave up just four hits and one run while striking out nine.

 

Brett Roberts broke a scoreless tie with a one-out solo home run off De La Cruz in the third inning.

 

Harrison Spohn hit a one-out solo home run off Javier Atenico in the seventh to make it 2-0.

 

Meanwhile, Lowe was in cruise control. He gave up a one out single to Jefrey De Los Santos in the second inning and afterwards only Kevin Villavicencio reached base against Lowe on an error. Lowe retired the final 12 batters he faced.

 

Stanavich continued the streak by retiring the first four batters he faced. Finally with two outs in the eighth, Dyron Campos registered an infield single to snap the streak of 16 in a row retired. Villavicencio followed with another hit and Jett Williams worked a walk to load the bases.

 

Stanavich recovered by getting Carlos Dominguez to line out sharply to right field on a 3-1 pitch to preserve the 2-0 lead.

 

The Hammerheads broke the game open with three runs off Atencio in the ninth. Chase Luttrell wacked a RBI single and Spohn doubled home a run off Dominguez's glove in right field to make it 4-1. Luttrell scored on a grounder by Andrew Fernandez to make it 5-0.

 

The Mets collected just five hits. Williams went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.

 

The Mets (30-53, 6-12) are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Due to a major renovation projection at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, the series has been moved to Clover Park. The Cardinals will be the home team for the six-game series. Games Tuesday-Saturday will start at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's finale will start at 12:00 p.m. The games are closed to the public. Fans can watch the games for free on the Bally Live app.
