Game Recap: Suarez’s Strong Start Not Enough As Cyclones Fall To Blue Rocks, 4-2


 

Brooklyn commits five errors in field en route to defeat

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (July 28, 2023) - Despite yet another strong outing from RHP Joander Suarez, the Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday night at Maimonides Park, 4-2. Suarez tossed 5.2 innings, allowing only two unearned runs. Of Wilmington’s four runs, only one was earned. With the loss, Brooklyn is now 2-2 against the Blue Rocks during the six game set.


Neither team could muster up a run until the fourth inning, when 2B Viandel Pena knocked in C Israel Pineda on a fielder’s choice.


Brooklyn responded quickly, matching Wilmington with a run in the fourth. 3B Chase Estep singled home LF Stanley Consuegra to pull Brooklyn even.


Wilmington regained control in the sixth. With runners on second and third and two out, LF Daylen Lile knocked in Pena on a fielding error by Estep.


In the eighth, Wilmington tacked on some insurance. Lile laced a double to left, plating Pena and extending the Wilmington lead to 3-1.


Down by two in the late stages, Brooklyn tacked on a run in the eighth. Consuegra singled to left, plating CF Alex Ramírez to make it a one run game.


The run was negated when Wilmington plated yet another run in the ninth on a fielding error. This time, Pineda hit a ball to short, which was mishandled by SS Junior Tilien. SS Jose Sanchez crossed home to push the lead back to two runs.


The Brooklyn bats did not have an answer in the ninth.


The Cyclones return to action against the Blue Rocks tomorrow at Maimonides Park. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. Brooklyn hands the ball to RHP Cameron Foster (4-4, 4.61). Wilmington will counter with RHP Kyle Luckham (2-3, 4.59).
