Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

The Brooklyn Cyclones (24-14, 52-51) go for a third-straight win against the Aberdeen IronBirds (17-20, 49-52) — the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles — on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island. 

RHP Jawilme Ramírez (1-0, 3.38 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill for Brooklyn against Aberdeen’s RHP Kyle Virbitsky (3-1, 4.54 ERA).

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn emerged with its 2nd-straight victory, 5-3, on Wednesday afternoon vs. Aberdeen...IronBirds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Cyclones tied it on a SS Jett Williams leadoff home run...Brooklyn took the lead for good with 3 runs in the 4th on a RF Omar De Los Santos run-scoring infield single, plus a throwing error, and a RBI double from Williams...LF Jacob Teter provided a 2-run double for Aberdeen in the 7th...Cyclones added insurance on a 2B D'Andre Smith RBI single in the 8th...Smith, Williams, and DH Ryan Clifford recorded multi-hit games for Brooklyn...C Samuel Basallo reached base 3 times for Aberdeen, adding a double and a walk...RHP Jordany Ventura struck out a career-high 10 over 6.2 innings of 1-run and 1-hit ball to earn his 3rd-straight win...LHP Eli Ankeney recorded the final 6 outs for his 3rd save. 

 

OUT IN FRONT: SS Jett Williams started the home first inning for the Cyclones with a solo home run off RHP Trace Bright — the first of his Brooklyn career — in Wednesday's win vs. Aberdeen...The 19-year-old's blast marked the 2nd leadoff home run for the Cyclones in 2023...LF Alex Ramírez was the first to accomplish the feat, smacking a solo home run to left-center field off RHP Johan Domínguez on May 24 vs. Winston-Salem...Both leadoff home runs came in Wednesday afternoon games on Coney Island...OF Ross Adolph and INF Rylan Sandoval are tied for the franchise record in leadoff home runs with 3 in 2018 and 2010, respectively.  

 

AIR JORDANY: RHP Jordany Ventura set new career highs in innings pitched (7.1) and strikeouts (9), earning the win and tossing a quality start in August 2's win at Jersey Shore...He then set a new career-high with 10 strikeouts in his next start on August 9 vs. Aberdeen, allowing 1 run and 1 hit over 6.2 innings...Ventura tossed a career and team-season-high 101 pitches and 66 strikes...The 101 pitches were the most thrown by a Brooklyn pitcher since RHP Briam Campusano tossed 103 pitches (57 strikes) over 5.2 innings in a 5-2 loss at West Virginia on July 28, 2018...In 5 starts with Brooklyn, the Mets' No. 29 prospect per Baseball America is 3-0 with a 2.73 ERA (8 ER in 26.1 IP), 13 walks (12.7 BB%), and 27 strikeouts (26.5 K%)...Narrowed down to his last 3 starts, Ventura is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA (5 ER in 19.0 IP) and 8 walks (11.3 BB%) to 23 strikeouts (32.4 K%) with only 6 hits allowed...Brooklyn is 5-0 in starts made by the 23-year-old. 

 

BIG APPLE ELI: LHP Eli Ankeney tossed a pair of shutout innings to earn his 3rd save of his professional career on Wednesday afternoon vs. Aberdeen...Between Brooklyn and Single-A St. Lucie, the 22-year-old has accrued a 1.42 ERA (5 ER in 31.2 IP) in 21 appearances (1 start)...Among Minor League pitchers with 30.0-plus innings pitched and 1-or-fewer starts, Ankeney is 9th in ERA (1.42)...Ankeney is also tied for 3rd in fewest hits allowed (14), 7th in opposing batting average (.133)...Since making his Brooklyn debut on June 3 at Jersey Shore, the Phoenix, Ariz. native is tied for 2nd among South Atlantic League relievers with 20.0-plus IP in fewest hits allowed (12), 3rd in batting average against (.160), 5th in ERA (1.99), and 9th in opposing OPS (.579).
