BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-19, 54-53) were shutout by the Somerset Patriots 8-0 on Sunday night at TD Bank Ballpark in the series finale. The Ponies and Patriots split the six-game set.

Right-handed starter Blane Abeyta (7-6) led the way for Somerset (21-17, 63-43), throwing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, while allowing one hit and no walks. He retired 16-straight batters to end his outing after allowing a two-out single to Drew Gilbert in the first.

Gilbert had a multi-hit game with singles in the first and seventh innings. JT Schwartz drilled a double to center on the 12th pitch of the at bat in the seventh inning.

The Patriots got on the board with a two-run homer from Aaron Palensky in the fourth inning that made it 2-0 against Dom Hamel (6-6). They added three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Max Burt that made it 5-0.

Somerset put up another three-spot in the eighth, on an RBI double from Palensky and two-run single from Eduardo Torrealba, which extended the lead to 8-0.

The Rumble Ponies will begin a six-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs at Mirabito Stadium on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:20 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Gilbert had his fourth multi-hit game for the Rumble Ponies…Matt Minnick faced the minimum in the seventh inning with a strikeout against his former team…The Ponies moved two games back of Somerset for first place in the Northeast Division.
