BROOKLYN, N.Y. (August 13, 2023) - Thanks to a strong rehab outing from LHP Joey Lucchesi and steller relief from the bullpen, the Brooklyn Cyclones tossed their 10th shutout victory of the season, defeating the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 6-0. With the win, the Cyclones have now shut out an opponent 10 times this season, which ties a franchise record. Additionally, the wins gave Brooklyn a series victory, as the ‘Clones captured four out of six against Aberdeen.

Luchessi tossed his second rehab outing of the week with High-A Brooklyn. The southpaw logged 4.2 innings, surrendering just one hit while punching out three and walking one. Paul Gervase picked up the win in relief, hurling 3.1 one-hit innings while striking out a season-high seven batters. After Gervase, LHP Eli Ankeney pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

It took until the bottom of the sixth for Brooklyn to break a scoreless tie. 2B D’Andre Smith lofted a ball to shallow center that dropped in for a two-run double. The very next batter C Drake Osborn drilled a sacrifice fly to straight away center field to pad the Brooklyn lead to three.

Brooklyn tacked on some insurance one frame later. DH Omar De Los Santos led off the frame with a towering home run to right center field. The long ball marked De Los Santos’ 6th of the season, and gave Brooklyn a 4-0 lead.

The Cyclones bats were far from done, though. With two on and two outs in the eighth, LF Rhylan Thomas knocked a two-run single to left field, pushing Brooklyn’s lead to 6-0. Aberdeen had no answer in the ninth.

Brooklyn will stay home and return to action Tuesday at Maimonides Park. The Cyclones welcome the Hudson Valley Renegades to Coney Island for a crucial six game series. Neither team has announced probable pitchers for the contest, which will begin at 7:00 p.m.
