MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (24-22, 59-56) used an early rally and strong pitching to defeat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 4-2, on Wednesday night at Delta Dental Stadium. The Ponies lead the series 2-0.
In the top of the second inning against Ricky Tiedemann (0-4), Augstin Ruiz worked a walk, Hayden Senger walked, and Jaylen Palmer followed with a single to load up the bases with one out. Luisangel Auña drew a bases-loaded RBI walk that scored Ruiz to make it 1-0. Drew Gilbert followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Senger to make it 2-0.
Up 2-0 in the fifth, Rowdey Jordan reached base on a fielder’s choice. Jordan stole his 26th base of the season to get into scoring position with two outs. Mateo Gil followed with an RBI single that scored Jordan to give Binghamton a 3-0 lead.
Tyler Stuart (3-2) twirled a gem against New Hampshire (18-27, 53-60). He threw six scoreless innings with six strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and no walks. Stuart retired the final 12 batters that he faced in order and only allowed two baserunners throughout the entire start.
Daniel Juarez came into the game in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and one out. He got Phil Clarke to fly out and Will Robertson to pop out to end the inning. In the eighth, Juarez worked around a single and a walk with no outs to end the inning unscathed.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Ponies added insurance. Jeremiah Jackson blasted a solo home run with one out in the frame to make it 4-0. It marked Jackson’s fourth home run with Binghamton and 19th overall this season.
The Fisher Cats got on the board in the bottom of the ninth with two outs with a two-run home run from Robertson off Paul Gervase that cut Binghamton’s lead to 4-2. Junior Santos came in for the final out and stranded the potential tying runs on base, earning his first save.
The Rumble Ponies continue their series Fisher Cats at Delta Dental Stadium on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
