Game Recap: Ponies’ Winning Streak Snapped against Fisher Cats Friday Night in NH

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (25-23, 60-57) fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 14-8 on Friday night at Delta Dental Stadium to snap the Rumble Ponies three-game winning streak.

With the Ponies up 8-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, New Hampshire (19-28, 54-61) scored seven runs in the inning. Miguel Hiraldo hit a grand slam that cut the Ponies lead to 8-7 and Steward Berroa hit a pinch-hit three-run homer that put the Fisher Cats on top 10-8. It was Hiraldo’s second home run of the game as he finished with six RBIs.

Down 2-0 entering the top of the second, the Rumble Ponies put together a big inning of their own. Agustin Ruiz put Binghamton on the board with an RBI single and Luisangel Acuña tied the game at two grounding into a force out at third to drive in a run. Drew Gilbert then reached on a fielding error to re-load the bases. The next batter JT Schwartz belted a grand slam over the right field wall to put the Ponies up 6-2 and cap off a six-run frame. It was Schwartz’ third home run of the season and first since April 21st.

Gilbert then crushed a solo home run to center field in the fourth to extend the Ponies lead to 7-2. It is Gilbert’s fourth home run in his last ten games.

Ponies RHP Dom Hamel allowed six hits and three runs over five innings with three walks and six strikeouts in the no-decision.

The Rumble Ponies continue the series against the Fisher Cats on Saturday evening with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. and the NYCM Insurance pregame show gets underway at 6:50 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Jeremiah Jackson singled in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to ten games. He has now reached base in 19 of his first 20 games since joining the Mets organization…Agustin Ruiz was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, reaching base four times…Mateo Gil had a multi-hit game and reached base three times…Binghamton has hit four grand slams this season, doubling their total from all of last year.
