Former Mets Catcher Ron Hodges passes away.
Jay Horwitz Mets Insider Blog: Peggy Hodges called me to say Ron Hodges passed away after a short illness. He was only 74.
NY Post: Longtime ex-Mets catcher Ron Hodges dead at 74: "Selected by the Mets in the second round of the second phase of the January 1972 amateur draft, Hodges finished with a .240 batting average, 19 homers and 147 RBIs during a big league career from 1973-84...'Playing in that ’73 season with the pennant drive in September is my favorite memory of my baseball career,' Hodges said in a 2018 interview with the Society for American Baseball Research."
Mets.com: Former Mets catcher Ron Hodges dies at 74 “'Being in New York was a special thing with all the fans, and [because I] played at Shea Stadium,' Hodges told MLB.com this past February. “'oing through that September drive, the stadium was packed with fans every night, saying, ‘Let’s go Mets.’ We were winning.'"
Ron was one of three players to play an entire career of at least ten seasons with the Mets. Ron played 12 years with the Mets behind only Ed Kranepool, 18, and David Wright, 12.
Ron will always be best remembered as a Rookie on the 1973 Pennant winning team and his part in the "Ball Off the Wall" play:

Tim Britton The Athletic: David Stearns and the Mets face a pivotal offseason. Here’s a blueprint for navigating it. Tim advocates for going all out to bring in Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Eduardo Rodriguez but if that doesn't work out he suggests going after Lucas Giolito. to improve the offense he says "Engage on Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto" but also talk to the Twins who are looking to cut payroll. (Subscription required).
NY Post+: How the Mets can approach filling a bullpen where the few holdovers hold questions too. Josh Hader and David Robertson are mentioned along with Jordan Hicks and Matt Moore. Plus this note this about Mets bench coaches: "Over the past six seasons, the Mets employed six different bench coaches, and they added a seventh to the list this week when they hired former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons as part of Carlos Mendoza’s new-look staff...The six: Gary DiSarcina, Jim Riggleman, Hensley Meulens, Dave Jauss, Glenn Sherlock and Eric Chavez."
NYMAG.com: The Rookie Billionaire Steve Cohen is used to getting what he wants. His time as Mets Owner and casino bidder is teaching him what money can't buy. A very in depth article by Andrew Rice goes into Steve Cohen's history as hedge fund manager and Mets owner as his plans to build a Casino on '50 acres of asphalt' - 'This has long been considered the Super Bowl of New York real estate'.
I think The Mediagoon has the best idea. Build a new stadium with a roof and the casino underneath.
