1/12/2024: Mets Roster Moves - Claim Max Kranick, DFA Cooper Hummel, sign LHP Danny Young to a minor deal

 

The New York Mets via X/Twitter have announced the following roster moves:

Mets claim: RHP Max Kranick off waivers from Pittsburgh. As the 40 man roster was full, they designated outfielder/catcher Cooper Hummel for assignment.

Max, 26, will turn 27 in July. He was drafted by the Pirates in 2016, 11th round.

MLB Trade Rumors: "He made his major league debut with nine starts in 2021, posting a 6.28 earned run average in 38 2/3 innings. He made two relief appearances for the club in 2022 but required Tommy John surgery in June of that year."

According to FanGraphs, he has no minor league options left. If he doesn't make the MLB team, he will need to pass through waivers to be sent down.

Per Baseball Savant, he throws a 4 seam fastball with a max velocity of 95 MPH about 50% of the time, slider at 87 MPH - 30-35%, curveball - 80 MPH - about 10% and a changeup at 87 MPH about 7%. 

Last year in the minors, he was able to get up to 94 MPH with his fastball.  He was 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA in 7 AAA starts, 16.1 innings, 12 Ks. In his last outing he went 3.2 innings - 60 pitches which were both highs for the year.

Mets sign: LHP Danny Young to a minor league contract with an invite to major league Spring Training.

Danny will turn 30 in May. He was drafted by the Blue Jays in 2015, 8th round. He saw time in the majors last year with the Braves and in 2022 with the Braves and Mariners. Other than one start in 2015, all of his appearances have been in relief.

According to FanGraphs he has one minor league option left.

According to Baseball Savant, Danny Young is a sinker (55%)/slider pitcher (45%). The sinker topped out last year at 89 MPH and the slider at 77 MPH.
