Starling Marte started play last night in Winter Ball and went 1 for 3 with a single, groundout and a K. He left the game after 5 innings during a long rain delay. He is trying to get some at bats after missing time last year with an injury.
Press Release: Ronny Mauricio Medical Update - "Yesterday, Ronny Mauricio underwent right knee ACL reconstruction surgery performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. A typical return-to-play timeline from this procedure is 8-12 months. Additional updates will be provided as appropriate."
Mets.com:
- Gibbons' new job deepens special bond with Mets - John Gibbons talks about his new job with the Mets and had this to say about Brett Baty - "'I’ve been in his shoes...I was the top prospect coming up, and it didn’t work out for me. Put it this way: I probably feel his pain a little bit...[Baty] is going through the natural progression. I’ve been there, done that. Maybe, I can help some guys out...'"
- Prospects primed to break out in '24 -- one for each team - for the Mets they mention Margo Vargas - "New York acquired Vargas in a Deadline deal with the Marlins for David Robertson, and the organization seemingly did well by picking up an infielder with such elite contact rates at just 18 years old. Vargas’ 1.6 BB/K ratio ranked second among 124 complex-level qualifiers, while his 10.1 percent swinging-strike rate placed third among the same group. The left-handed hitter will get a longer look at Single-A to begin his age-19 season, and if he keeps putting the ball in play in a similar fashion, he’ll lock in his plus hit tool and become a bigger name outside Port St. Lucie."
