Will Sammon The Athletic: How soon can the Mets’ Kodai Senga return to the mound? A doctor chimes in. "...for a general overview of the injury and a potential recovery, The Athletic consulted with Dr. Laith Jazrawi, chief of the division of sports medicine at NYU Langone Orthopedics...Based on the description of the injury...Jazrawi suggested that a typical recovery time may include a shut down of about two weeks before a ramp-up. A normal spring training progression requires about six weeks of building up arm strength before getting into major-league games...There would be a danger of trying to come back too soon, Jazrawi said. If the posterior capsule is irritated then that could throw off a pitcher’s mechanics. And if that happens and a pitcher is trying to avoid any pain, then other parts of the shoulder can get stressed, leading to tearing and damage." (Subscription required).

NY Post: Tylor Megill heads up trio Mets want to ‘step up’ in Kodai Senga’s absence. "The leading candidates — Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi and Jose Butto, who likely will get shots before the Mets’ group of untested prospects — all have major league experience, reason for belief and reason for caution."

Jon Heyman NY Post: Mets’ looming talks with Francisco Alvarez, agent Bad Bunny have luxury tax problem. "The Mets are expected to talk to Francisco Alvarez and agent Bad Bunny at some point about a long-term deal.  But unless Alvarez wants to sign very cheap (unlikely), it’s hard for a team over the fourth-tier luxury-tax threshold to do anything long term early."

Jason Bay, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Mets in November after three years of futility in New York, clouts a two-run homer in his first at-bat of spring training in the Mariners' 8-6 exhibition victory over the Padres. The likable, but oft-injured outfielder signed with Seattle in the offseason for $1 million, a far cry from the four-year, $66-million free-agent deal he inked when he left Boston for the Big Apple in 2009.

At a news conference at Borough Hall in Queens, the Mets announce the team will host an LGBT Pride Night on August 13 at Citi Field, featuring discounted seating for the game against the Padres and a free postgame concert. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold at Mets.com/pride for the event, which is expected to attract more than 5,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender fans, will benefit the LGBT Network, a non-profit organization, and its Safe Schools Initiative working to stop bullying in Long Island and Queens.
