  • NY Post: Mets’ Pete Alonso committed to being a complete hitter again after 2023 regression. "Pete Alonso blasted 46 homers last season — his most since his historic rookie year — but there was also plenty of room for improvement from him in other areas.  Most notably, the Mets first baseman produced a career-low .318 on-base percentage, driven largely by his anemic .217 batting average...'There’s certain things that correlate to batting average,' Alonso said. 'Minimizing chase is certainly No. 1...If I’m hitting balls hard consistently in the zone, that definitely correlates.'"
  • Joel Sherman: Mets should reconsider Jordan Montgomery stance. Joel notes the number of Mets Pitchers that could be free agents after this year saying - "Montgomery might not be a No. 1 or 2, but he is a high-end No. 3 with little question about makeup and none about pitching in New York or October. I suspect if his price does fall, another team will beat the Mets to all of these qualities. But the Mets should seriously consider being a bit uncomfortable financially now to solve a today and tomorrow issue."

The Mets purchase slugger Dave Kingman from the Giants. The 26 year-old first baseman/outfielder was drafted by San Francisco as the team's first pick in the initial round of the secondary phase of the 1970 amateur draft.

2014

In an online contest sponsored by the MLB Network, the fans choose Mets' third baseman David Wright as the Face of Major League Baseball. The seven-time All-star, dubbed "Captain America" due to his heroics last season's WBC, narrowly beat out A's infielder Eric Sogard in the bracket-style competition where fans voted on Twitter.
