Today's Game: 6:10 PM Vs. Cardinals.  Starting Pitcher TBD.

NY Post: Buck Showalter returns to MLB Network as analyst after Mets split. "Showalter will serve as a studio analyst starting next month and working at MLB Network was his last job before taking over as manager of the Mets ahead of the 2022 season."

Yahoo Sports: These five overlooked players have a chance to crack Mets' Opening Day rosterSean Reid-Foley ("who leads with a mid-90s fastball along with a slider and changeup, has only allowed one baserunner on a walk while striking out seven"), Phil Bickford (Since allowing three earned runs in his opening outing of the spring, Bickford has started to find his groove. He has struck out two batters in each of his last three outings while only allowing one hit across 2.2 innings"), Ji-man Choi ("This spring, Choi is 6-for-27 with one home run, four RBI, two runs and six walks to post a .222/.364/.407 slash line. He stands as the most realistic option to threaten DJ Stewart's spot on the roster"), Yohan Ramirez ("Ramirez, who is out of options, has tossed six scoreless innings with six strikeouts while scattering five hits and two hit batters."), and Zack Short ("The Kingston, N.Y., native is on the 40-man roster and has showcased an able glove while going 8-for-30 (.267) so far this spring") are mentioned

Anthony Rieber Newsday: Phil Bickford is the one Met who went to arbitration. And he won an extra $85,000.  "Bickford, a stringy-haired, 28-year-old righthanded reliever with a 4.43 career ERA, felt he was asking for what he was worth. Even though the difference was $85,000 in a sport in which the average salary in 2023 was $4.9 million, Bickford wasn’t afraid of taking the Mets to an arbitration hearing...Bickford’s salary for 2024 — assuming he makes the club out of spring training — will be $900,000. 'I was just comfortable moving forward and just listened to my agent and the lawyer that he hired,' Bickford told Newsday last week."

Tim Britton The Athletic: This Week in Mets: José Buttó opening eyes in spring training. "Now, Buttó touched 97 mph on the gun in his last spring training outing, and he’s developed a slider and cutter to go with that changeup and curve. It’s a more diverse mix, and one that the right-hander deploys far more aggressively." (Subscription required)

Mets.com:

1 player from each team making a big impression this spring For the Mets they list two - "Mets: RHP Tylor Megill and RHP Jose Butto. When Kodai Senga suffered a shoulder strain early in Spring Training, the Mets found themselves in need of a fifth starter. Megill and Butto have both lobbied for the job in impressive fashion, combining to produce a 1.23 ERA so far this spring. Although Butto has delivered slightly better results overall, Megill remains the favorite in the race thanks in large part to his results down the stretch last season. Both pitchers have been big reasons behind the Mets’ Grapefruit League-leading team ERA."

Chicago Cubs signed Jonathan Villar of the New York Mets as a free agent on March 19, 2022.

Baseball Reference:

1999 - The career of New York Mets pitcher Paul Wilson is derailed again when he suffers a partially torn ligament in his pitching elbow while warming up before a three-inning stint in a minor league game. An MRI will show a partial tear of a ligament in his elbow, and on March 30th he will undergo Tommy John surgery which will sideline him for the year.

2012 - New York Mets owners Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, facing a $300 million lawsuit, agree to pay $162 million into a trust fund for victims of Bernard Madoff's fraudulent investment scheme, thus averting a trial. The payoff is because the Mets were among the few investors who made money out of their investments in Madoff's fund, while thousands of smaller investors lost everything when the whole house of cards collapsed in 2009. Wilpon and Katz will put up $29 million of their own money in the settlement.

Here is what Dave Rubin of Mack’s Mets said about the settlement.
