3/28/24 Mets Roster Moves - RHP Sean Reid-Foley to 15-Day IL, Opening Day Roster Set

Syracuse Mets Release 2024 Opening Day Roster - The starting rotation: Jose Butto, Dom Hamel, Joey Lucchesi, Christian Scott and Mike Vasil. Other notables - Nate Lavender, Luisangel Acuna, Ji-Man Choi, Mark Vientos, and Drew Gilbert. Some of the players from last year's team left off the list: Wyatt Young, Jaylen Palmer, Joe Suozzi, Justin Jarvis and Brandon McIlwain.

Mets.com:

  • Here are the 24 youngest players on Opening Day rosters - Francisco Alvarez, 22, comes in as the 9th youngest player on the list. "Alvarez has an elite combination of power (25 homers, .228 ISO in 423 PAs) and defense (95th percentile pitch framing). That’s a great season for any catcher, let alone one who was 21 last year. A .284 OBP held back his wOBA to just .310, although his .222 BABIP is sure to improve over a full season and make him one of the better-hitting catchers in the Majors."
  • What needs to go right for each team this season - For the Mets - Luis Severino and Sean Manaea must hit their ceilings
  • Triple-A prospects to watch -- one for each team - For the Mets it is "Drew Gilbert, OF (No. 2/MLB No. 53)...New York acquired Gilbert in last year’s Justin Verlander blockbuster at the Deadline, and the former Tennessee star took off at Double-A Binghamton, hitting .325/.423/.561 over 35 games. His walk-heavy approach and improved loft will be tested at the Minors’ top level, but with above-average speed and plus arm strength, Gilbert has other ways to contribute in Syracuse. Expect the 23-year-old to continue to rotate around the outfield as he works to find a permanent home in Queens."

John Franco throws out the ceremonial first pitch to a standing ovation from the crowd attending the collegiate matchup between St. John's and Georgetown in the first baseball game ever played at Citi Field. Before tossing his signature pitch, a breaking ball in the dirt, the former Mets reliever goes to the mound wearing a familiar blue and orange jacket, removes his coat to reveal his alma mater's colors, a Red Storm jersey with his number 45.

On a damp and chilly afternoon, 22,397 patrons become the first fans to attend a baseball game at Citi Field, the Mets' new home, when St. John's University hosts Georgetown in a collegiate contest.
