Syracuse Mets Roster Moves - Luke Voit and Peyton Battenfield released

The New York Mets announced on the Syracuse Mets Roster page that they have released Luke Voit and Peyton Battenfield. 

In trying to make the Mets this Spring Training, Luke appeared in 14 Spring games, 34 at-bats, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 3 walks, 14 Ks, .118/.220/.235.  

Luke made a big impact in Syracuse last year.  In 37 games for Syracuse in 2023, Luke hit 14 Homeruns with 35 RBIs - .264/.415/.643. He opted out of his Syracuse contract on August 3rd.  He signed a minor league deal with the Mets this winter with an invite to Spring Training.

Luke can now try to sign with another team on a minor league deal to try to get back to the majors.

Peyton Battenfield was claimed off waivers by the Mets last year on September 2nd.  He appeared in two Syracuse games - one good (6.2 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 ER, 2 walks, 2 Ks) and one not so good (2.1 innings, 5 hits, 5 runs, 5 ER, 4 walks, 2 Ks).  He appeared in one game this Spring throwing two scoreless innings allowing 1 hit in getting the win. Late last season, he provided Syracuse with innings and starting rotation depth.  With Jose Butto, Joey Lucchesi and others slated for the Syracuse rotation, the Mets must have felt they had less need for that depth.

 

Peyton Battenfield (W,1-5) goes 6.2 innings in his 1st @Mets affiliated game, 1 run, 1 Er, 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 Ks - 93 pitches, 59 strikes, fastball as high as 91.7 MPH with a 77 MPH curveball.
