From the Tigers 5 Mets 0 Post Game Notes 4/1/2024:

Mets Suffered their fourth straight loss to start the season...ls their longest losing streak to open the season since 2005 when they began the year 0-5.

  • Have lost four straight to the Tigers and move to 11-17 all-time against Detroit.
  • Was their first tine being shut out in an extra-inning game since -"July 10, 2022 vs. Marni when they lost 2-0 in 10 innings.
Sean Manaea did not allow a hit through his first 5.2 innings before allowing a single to Andy Ibanez...was the longest ever no-hit by a Met in their team debut beating the previous high of 5.2 innings by Brain Bannister (4/5/06)...was the second-longest no-hit bid by a Mets in their first start with the club...Tracy Stallard threw 6.0 no-hit innings in his first career start with the Mets on June 2nd, 1963 Vs. Pittsburgh...Stallard had 13 relief appearances before making his first career start as a Met...Courtesy of Elias...had eight strikeouts, tied with Johan Santana (2008) for the most strikeouts by a Mets left-handed pitcher in their team debut.

Laura Albanese Newsday. Mets waste Sean Manaea gem, drop to 0-4 with 10-inning loss to Tigers. "With their rotation in disarray, their offense nonexistent and their record winless, the Mets turned to one of their newest acquisitions for solace Monday night. And for six innings, Sean Manaea provided just that. He transfixed the Tigers, kept them off the board and was just short of perfect. And it still wasn’t enough."

NY Post: Silent night Winless Mets get shut out to waste pitcher’s strong debut in 10-inning lossMichael Tonkin surrendered five unearned runs in the 10th inning — with Joey Wendle’s fielding error at second base contributing — as the Mets wasted Sean Manaea’s gem in his debut for the club. The lefty Manaea didn’t allow his first hit until there were two outs in the sixth and finished with a one-hitter over six shutout innings with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Kiner's Korner: "[Manaea's] strong performance was complemented by an outstanding throw from left fielder Brandon Nimmo. Nimmo's throw prevented Tigers catcher Carson Kelly from scoring on Andy Ibanez's single, preserving a scoreless game in the sixth inning."

SNY.TV: "Brandon Nimmo charged hard and fired a perfect one-hop throw to get Kelly out at the plate by 10 feet, with Francisco Alvarez absorbing some contact and hanging on to make the tag to end the inning...Alvarez, in his next at-bat after the collision, ripped a two-out, two-strike pitch into the gap in left field and with great hustle and a deft slide was in with a double...Alvarez had a big chance with two on and one out in the first but bounced into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double-play. He finished 1-for-4."

Brian Joura Mets360: "It’s hard to decide which one was more brutal – the Mets fielding in the 10th inning or their hitting throughout the game. Either way, they lost their fourth straight, with a 5-0 setback to the Tigers Monday night at Citi Field."
