Binghamton Game Recap: Ponies Win at Portland, Claim Fifth-Straight Victory

PORTLAND, ME – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-12) beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 4-3, in a tight battle at Hadlock Field on Wednesday night. The Ponies have taken the first two games of the series and have won five-straight games overall.

Binghamton scored in the first inning for the second-straight game in this series. With one out in the first, Rhylan Thomas singled and later stole second base. Later in the frame, Kevin Parada hit an RBI double that scored Thomas to make it 1-0.

Binghamton added another run in the second inning. Jeremiah Jackson singled and reached second base on a wild pitch. Wyatt Young followed with an RBI single that made it 2-0.

Portland (16-11) scored in the second inning against Joander Suarez (2-1). Matthew Lugo drew a walk and stole second base to get into scoring position. Mickey Gasper drove in Lugo with an RBI double that cut Binghamton's lead to 2-1.

Suarez allowed just one run over six innings on five hits and two walks, with three strikeouts. He pitched at least six frames for his third-straight outing.

Binghamton added a pair of runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by four-straight walks from Alex Ramírez, Parada, Schwartz, and Rowdey Jordan. Ramírez and Parada both scored on wild pitches from Alex Hoppe, which gave Binghamton a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Roman Anthony hit a one-out single and Marcelo Mayer followed with a two-run blast that cut Binghamton's lead to 4-3. Nolan Clenney came into the game and struck out Eddinson Paulino for the final out of the eighth, stranding two runners on. Clenney retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their six-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) at Hadlock Field on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on MiLB.TV and WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM.

Postgame Notes: Binghamton won back-to-back games at Hadlock Field for the first time since sweeping a doubleheader on August 21, 2021…Thomas went 3-for-4 with a run scored and recorded his sixth multi-hit game and third three-hit game of the season…Young has two hits and three walks over the first two games in the series…Schwartz recorded his fifth multi-hit game…Ramírez recorded his Eastern League-leading 14th stolen base…The Ponies drew six walks and only struck out four times.
