Game Recap and Highlights: Late Rally Propels Dunedin Blue Jays to 6-4 Win Over St. Lucie Mets

 


 

Lara hits 9th home run in loss

 

ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 29, 2023) – The Dunedin Blue Jays broke a 3-3 tie by scoring three times in the seventh inning and went on to beat the St. Lucie Mets 6-4 at Clover Park on Thursday night (Box Score).

 

With the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning, Glenn Santiago lifted a sac fly to right field to bring home Jaden Rudd for the go-ahead run that made it 4-3. Later in the inning with the bases reloaded, Jimmy Loper replaced Jean Calderon on the mound and Angel Del Rosario lined a game-breaking two-run single that made it 6-3.

 

The Mets got a run back on a two-out RBI double by Yeral Martinez in the ninth. Michael Brewer recovered to strike out Dyron Campos as the tying run to end the game.

 

The Mets fell behind 3-0 in the second inning. Starter Christopher Vasquez gave up back-to-back RBI doubles to Del Rosario and Nicolas Deschamps. Rikelbin De Castro made it three run-scoring hits in a row with a single to make it 3-0. Vasquez got a double play ball to stop the bleeding.

 

Vasquez pitched 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out two. Three of Vasquez's four innings were scoreless.

 

The Mets answered back in the bottom of the second. Campos crushed a two-out RBI double to get the Mets on the board and Luis Castillo followed with a RBI double to make it 3-2.

 

The Blue Jays remained in front by one run until Wilfredo Lara tagged starter Rafael Ohashi for a solo home run in the sixth that tied the game 3-3. It was Lara's team-leading ninth home run of the season.

 

Five different relievers appeared in the game for the Mets. Eric Foggo, Luis A. Rodriguez, Loper and Bailey Reid recorded scoreless appearances. Calderon took the loss after being charged with three runs in 0.2 innings.

 

Dunedin reliever Keiner Leon needed one pitch to get the last out of the sixth. He was credited with the win. Brewer pitched the final three innings to earn his first save.

 

Ohashi gave up three runs over 5.2 innings in a no-decision.

 

Martinez and Lara both went 2 for 4 in the loss.

 

The Mets have dropped six of their last eight games. Dunedin has won three in a row.

 

The Mets (1-3, 25-44) and Blue Jays (3-2, 35-36) play the third game of their series at Clover Park on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
