The Brooklyn Cyclones (1-3, 34-36) continue their series against the Aberdeen IronBirds (3-1, 37-33) — the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles — at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday from Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md.

RHP Jonah Tong (2-1, 3.68) — the New York Mets’ No. 20 prospect per MLB Pipeline — is expected to take the hill for the Cyclones. The IronBirds are projected to counter with the Orioles’ No. No. 18 farmhand per MLB Pipeline, RHP Jackson Baumeister (1-2, 2.61 ERA).

LAST TIME OUT: The Cyclones dropped the opening contest of a six-game set in Aberdeen, falling to the IronBirds by a score of 9-2 to fall to 1-3 in the season's second half...Brooklyn was limited to just three hits in the defeat, going just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position...3B Jesús Báez whacked a double to center field for his first High-A hit...CF Reed Trimble notched a three-hit, four RBI night for the IronBirds...RHP Jonathan Pintaro gave up three runs, all earned, over 2.2 innings en route to the loss, while RHP Michael Forret spun five one-hit shutout innings for Aberdeen, good enough to earn the win...Beyond Báez, CF Nick Morabito and LF Jefrey De Los Santos also collected base knocks for Brooklyn.

 

THIS DATE IN CYCLONES HISTORY: On June 26, 2016, SS José Reyes signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets and was assigned to Brooklyn...As a 33-year-old, Reyes appeared in four games with Brooklyn, going 2-for-11 (.182) at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two stolen bases...The Santiago, D.R. native appeared in 1,365 games over 12 years with the Mets, hitting .282/.334/.433 with a .768 OPS, 108 home runs, 521 RBI, and 408 stolen bases...On June 26, 2022, the Brooklyn Cyclones bested the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, 2-1, at Maimonides Park...Brooklyn won the contest on a walk-off RBI single from DH Matt O'Neill in the bottom of the ninth.

 

WELCOME TO CONEY ISLAND: INF Jesús Báez joined the Cyclones from Single-A St. Lucie on Monday and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in his High-A debut on Tuesday night...Baez is the No. 15 Prospect in the Mets' organization according to Baseball America and No. 22 by MLB Pipeline...At 19 years old, Báez checks in as the youngest player on Brooklyn's roster and will be the first player in franchise history born in 2005...Through 64 games at the Single-A level, Báez accumulated a .262 average (66-252) with 25 extra-base hits, 10 home runs, 39 RBI, and eight stolen bases...The Santo Domingo, D.R. native departed the Florida State League with the most total bases (112) in the circuit...Báez was also second in hits (66), tied for second in home runs (10), RBI (39), and extra-base hits (25), fourth in runs scored (40), sixth in slugging (.444), and tied for sixth in doubles (16).
