After Tuesday’s rainout, The Brooklyn Cyclones (15-21, 48-54) open a six-game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades (19-16, 52-48) — the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees — with a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday from Maimonides Park on Coney Island in Brooklyn, N.Y.
RHP Jack Wenninger (0-1, 3.78) — the New York Mets’ No. 27 prospect per Baseball America — is expected to get the ball for the Cyclones in the lid-lifter. The Renegades are projected to counter with LHP Kyle Carr (0-6, 5.61), the Yankees’ No. 11 farmhand per MLB Pipeline.
In the nightcap, RHP Jonah Tong (4-3, 3.36) — the Mets’ No. 17 prospect per Baseball America — is expected to toe the slab for Brooklyn. Hudson Valley anticipates RHP Blane Abeyta (1-2, 2.30) starting in the finale.

LET'S PLAY TWO: After playing two doubleheaders from Opening Day until July 28, the Cyclones are scheduled to play their third doubleheader in the last week on Wednesday...Brooklyn and Aberdeen split a pair of double-dips last week...On Wednesday, The IronBirds won the opener in eight innings, 3-2, and the Cyclones won the nightcap in seven, 3-2, on Wednesday...On Sunday, Aberdeen took the lid-lifter, 5-2, before Brooklyn won the finale, 6-4...Brooklyn is 4-4 in doubleheader games this year and 1-1-2 in doubleheaders overall...In 2023, the Cyclones were 0-4-2 in doubleheaders overall and 2-10 in games.
ROSTER MOVES: INF Kevin Villavicencio returns to Brooklyn from Single-A St. Lucie, while INF Mateo Gil was transferred to Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday...RHP Dakota Hawkins rejoined the Cyclones from Double-A Binghamton, while RHP Alfred Vega was added from Single-A St. Lucie on Monday...Villavicencio started the season on Coney Island going 9-for-46 (.196) at the plate with a .474 OPS in 14 games...The 20-year-old slashed .218/.283/.291 with a .574 OPS in 63 games in St. Lucie adding a home run, 17 RBI, and 14 stolen bases...Gil was hitting .324/.324/.588 with a .912 OPS in his last nine games...The 24-year-old hit .232/.272/.409 with a .681 OPS, seven home runs, and 28 runs batted in over 57 games with the Cyclones this year...Hawkins jumped up to Binghamton on July 29 and made two appearances last week for the Rumble Ponies...The 24-year-old went 0-1 and allowed four runs in 4.0 innings, walking three and striking out three in the two outings (one start)...Vega made three appearances with St. Lucie after being assigned on July 20...The 23-year-old went 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA (6 ER in 2.2 IP), no walks, and five strikeouts...All six runs came in one appearance...Vega was signed by the New York Mets as a minor league free agent on June 3 after spending the first seven years of his career in the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles organizations...OF Sebastian Castro and RHP Jimmy Loper were also released from the Cyclones roster by the New York Mets on Monday.
