11/1/24 Mets Roster Moves 9 Mets Officially Declare Free Agency - RHP Drew Smith; LHP Brooks Raley; 1B Pete Alonso; LHP Jose Quintana; DH J.D. Martinez; RHP Adam Ottavino; LF Jesse Winker; 2B Jose Iglesias; RHP Ryne Stanek;

11/1/24 Mets Roster Move: Shintaro Fujinami elects Free Agency "The Mets signed Fujinami to a one year contract on February 14, 2024.  He pitched 9 games for Syracuse before going on the IL in May.  He returned to rehab in the lower minors before rejoining Syracuse in July.  While Fujinami's fastball clocked as high as 99 MPH, walks were his Achilles' heel.  In 32.1 Syracuse innings, he allowed 33 walks while striking out 38."

Brian Joura Mets360 on Substack: Examining Sean Manaea’s deal last year for clues how to operate in the future. As always Brian says things not many other Mets writers say "Regardless of why you believed the Mets chose that strategy last offseason – wouldn’t having Manaea available at 2023-24 prices have been better than having him at 2024-25 prices? Instead of offering him the contract that they did, with a player option – wouldn’t it have been better to sign him with team option(s) instead?"

The Athletic: 2024-25 MLB offseason: Jim Bowden’s 25 predictions for signings, trades and more.  Jim predicts that the Yankees keep Juan Soto, the KC Royals get Sean Manaea and this about the Mets: "The Mets focus on starting pitching in free agency and manage to sign both Corbin Burnes and Max Fried to long-term contracts while also bringing back first baseman Pete Alonso, dropping more than half a billion in future salary commitments to land the trio."

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets still have mountain to climb to surpass potential dynasty in the making. "The Mets, as well as they played for the final four months of the regular season and into October, have to figure out how to bridge that gap. It won’t be as easy as just returning much of the same team, plugging in a few free agents and hoping for the best."

  • FAQ: What to know about Mets' offseason Anthony DiComo looks at all the important dates such as the GM Meetings next week and the Winter Meetings in December plus this: "Monday: This is the deadline for teams and players to exercise contract options, as well as for clubs to tender qualifying offers to eligible free agents. Also, the “quiet period” ends, allowing big league free agents to sign with any club as of 5 p.m. ET. This will be an important day for Sean Manaea, who must decide whether to opt out of his contract. Assuming he does, the Mets are likely to extend him a qualifying offer."
