According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, the New York Mets have claimed Kevin Herget off waivers from Milwaukee.
The RHP will turn 34 in April. Per FanGrahs, he has one Minor League Option remaining.
Last year he had a 1.59 ERA for the Brewers in 7 games, 11.1 innings with 9 Ks and 3 walks.
He was 5-1 with a 2.27 ERA in Triple-A, 38 games, 47.2 innings, 59 Ks, 11 walks.
Last year the Mets made quite a few waiver claims, putting a number of them back on waivers when they tried to send them to AAA for depth. With LHP Brooks Raley, RHP Adam Ottavino and RHP Ryne Stanek all leaving via Free Agency and the Mets not picking up the option on Phil Maton's contract, the Mets will likely employ a similar strategy this off season.
