12/8/24 Report: Mets sign RHP Oliver Ortega to a Minor League Deal (Stats and Videos)

 

Per Jon Morosi on X, the New York Mets have signed RHP Oliver Ortega to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training.  

Ortega, who turned 28 in October, missed all of 2024 due to two elbow surgeries, one in March to remove loose bodies in his elbow and another in June to remove a bone spur.

He has seen action in the majors with the Angels and the Twins compiling a 2-4 record with a 4.03 ERA in 45 games, 58 innings, 27 walks, 51 Ks, 1.414 WHIP.  According to FanGraphs, he has one minor league option left.  

According to Baseball Savant, he throws 5 different pitches - slider, curve, 4-seam fastball, sinker and sweeper reaching 95 with his fastball and sinker.
