NY Post: Steve Cohen nearing $1 billion in offseason spending with Sean Manaea contract — and Mets aren’t done yet. "The Amazin’s brought back one of their breakout stars of the 2024 season, agreeing to a three-year, $75 million contract with Sean Manaea early Monday morning. That brings the Mets’ free-agent spending to $916.25 million, with $765 million of that going to Juan Soto...There appears to be a greater likelihood that the team and Pete Alonso agree on a pact...The Mets also figure to try to add more bullpen help and could use a versatile infielder in the vein of Jose Iglesias, the team’s “OMG” hero who remains a free agent."
Laura Albanese Newsday: Pete Alonso deserves to be a Met, so what's the holdup? "President of baseball operations David Stearns and owner Steve Cohen have done a masterful job this offseason, with one glaring omission: It’s time to bring Alonso home...He is, in temperament and personality, a Met to his core. It’s time to make it official."
John Harper SNY.TV: Following Sean Manaea signing, Mets must bring Pete Alonso back to put exclamation point on offseason. "The addition of Juan Soto makes Alonso an especially good fit, and a necessary one as well. Soto obviously takes a big part of the offensive load off Alonso, and perhaps some of the pressure that seemed to affect the first baseman last season in his walk year. Yet Alonso's power bat is important to add some protection and production behind the Mets' new superstar right fielder."
NY Post: Mets’ starting pitching plan looks very familiar so far without true ace. "If Sean Manaea represents the final major piece of the Mets rotation, the club’s 2025 rotation would bear similarities to the 2024 rotation: plenty of depth, potential and experience, but probably without a true, established ace."
NY Post: Mets showed interest in Joc Pederson before $37 million Rangers deal. "The Mets are examining different ways to improve their lineup, and they were interested in Joc Pederson before he struck a deal with the Texas Rangers, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported Monday...Their interest in Pederson suggests a desire for more left-handed power, though options are dwindling. The rival Phillies recently added ex-Twin Max Kepler on a one-year, $10 million contract."
Will Sammon The Athletic First basemen are on the move, so what does that mean for Pete Alonso and the Mets? "The fit is obvious, but the terms remain tricky. When it comes to Alonso and the Mets, the sticking point could be contract length...Alonso’s camp could argue he deserves more than five years because of his high-end power and track record for durability." Joe DeMayo SNY.TV: Mets Minor League Mailbag: Brandon Sproat's potential 2025 impact and the plan for Brett Baty. Plus a positive update on pitching prospect Matt Allan. "...Allan was expected to have a healthy offseason with plans of being ready to go for spring training. We are a long way from this reality, but there is at least some optimism that he could be back on a professional mound in 2025 for the first time in over five years."

Happy Festivus, @Mets fans. Not only have the Mets brought back a terrific pitcher, but Sean Manaea is one of the nicest, friendliest, most down to earth people to come through their clubhouse in years. Always smiling, yet fiercely competitive. Great move.
