Good Morning. Happy Birthday Mike Cameron, Jeff Francoeur, and Corey Taylor. Mets looking at Tanner Scott and Alex Verdugo plus Cliff Floyd and Daniel Murphy talk about David Wright's Number Retirement.
Section Links: Mets Links, MLB Links, Winter Baseball, and This Day in Mets History.
Mike Vaccaro NY Sports+: Mets doing right by David Wright with number retirement: ‘He owned it all’. Mike talks to Cliff Floyd about Wright's number retirement. Cliff talk about talking to David when he first arrived in the big leagues; "Wright was 21, looking for guidance, eager to learn, eager to listen. And Floyd, as ever, was perfectly willing to talk. 'He was a sponge,' Floyd remembers. 'He didn’t just want to be a big leaguer, he wanted to be a star.'" (Subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Post: Mets and Tanner Scott meet with team still in need of bullpen help. "Tanner Scott, who is considered the top reliever on the free-agent market, recently spoke with team officials, a league source confirmed Tuesday. Scott, 30, pitched to a 1.75 ERA with 22 saves in 72 appearances for the Marlins and Padres last season."
Will Sammon The Athletic: What’s next for the Mets after meeting with top reliever Tanner Scott. "To be clear, that doesn’t mean the Mets will end up signing Scott or anyone else from that tier. The expectation is for the team to check out all segments of the relief market, including trades. But even for a club like the Mets, which checks in on many different players, it’s notable that they’d hold at least some interest in the best option available."
SNY.TV: Mets free agency and trade buzz: New York reportedly 'involved' in Alex Verdugo talks. "According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo, outfielder Alex Verdugo is on the radar of the Pirates, Blue Jays and the Mets. Cotillo says the Mets and Jays are "involved" but the Pirates are the team to watch in Verdugo's market."
Mark Healey of Gotham Baseball feels that Jesse Winker would be a better option over AlexVerdugo. Though Verdugo is a year younger, Winker has the better stats last year after down years in 2022 and 2023. Verdugo did play 149 games in the outfield last year while Jesse Winker played 18.
Winker>>>>Verdugo
