Brian Joura Mets 360: "For the second straight game, the Mets fell behind big early and then forged a comeback. This time they ran out of time, as they fell to the Braves, 6-5, Tuesday night in rainy Atlanta."

NY Post: Adrian Houser struggles as Mets’ late rally falls short in loss to Braves. "The Braves built an early cushion that was too big for the Mets to overcome in their 6-5 loss...Pete Alonso gave the Mets a pulse with a three-run homer in the eighth inning that sliced the deficit in half...The Mets added two in the ninth against Raisel Iglesias before the Braves closer struck out Alonso to end it."

SNY.TV: "Dedniel Nunez made his first MLB appearance. Nunez was called up after the Mets DFA'd Julio Teheran earlier in the day. The hard-throwing righty was a bit unlucky, allowing a bloop hit and another hit that probably should have been called an error on Brett Baty."

Mets fell behind 3-0 in the 1st and never did much on offense despite getting 9 hits - 4 of which were doubles.  Carlos Carrasco (0-2) had his second straight tough start raising his early season ERA to 11.42.

From The Mets Post Game Notes:

  • Francisco Álvarez (1-4, RBI): Lofted an RBI single in his first at-bat of the season in the second.
  • Pete Alonso (1-4, RBI): Had an RBI single in the fifth...Has nine RBIs over his last four games.
  • Carlos Carrasco (4.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, K): Allowed six runs for the first time since June 28, 2022 vs. Houston.
  • Starling Marte (1-1, 2B, SB): Was removed from today’s game with a neck strain...Considered day-to-day.

Mets YouTube Channel: Game Highlights:

Brian Joura Mets360: "Carlos Carrasco gave up six runs, five of which came on homers, as the Mets failed to finish the sweep, falling to the Marlins, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at Citi Field."

Metstradamus: How Many Cookies Throw I? "Well, it was a good run while it lasted, but the streak of two straight good starts by Mets starting pitching has gone up in smoke. Carrasco was in a 3-0 hole after four batters on Sunday, giving up a three run dinger to Bryan De La Cruz..."

David Lennon Newsday: Mets can't put all their eggs in one basket with Francisco Alvarez. "The Mets still put together a few sporadic threats without Marte, though Pete Alonso’s fifth-inning single was the lone RBI after Alvarez. They stranded 10 and went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position, a pitiful performance against a bad Marlins team."

Mike Puma NY Post: "Pete Alonso had homered 106 times over his three-plus major league seasons, but never with the bases loaded...That changed Saturday night, when the Mets slugger found a 91 mph fastball from Joan Adon up in the strike zone and sent a towering fly ball to left field that kept carrying, nestling a few rows deep behind the fence at Nationals Park."

Mets.com: "The resulting four runs made a winner of , who fired six shutout innings in his Mets debut, while allowing Showalter to become the first manager in Mets history to win his first three games with the club."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Bassitt showed excellent breaking stuff, which helped his low 90s fastball look more impressive than you’d think that type of heater would be. He gave up just three hits and two of those did not leave the infield. He also finished with 8 Ks in a dominating outing against a weak lineup."

Metstradamus: "I want “We’re going to grind you until you break” on a t-shirt, pronto. You can put Bassitt on it, or you could put Ivan Drago on it for all I care. I’ll be first in line for this shirt. Bassitt might have a better season than Max Scherzer, or perhaps not. But after hearing this, I have a feeling he might out-intense Max, and that’s saying a lot."

Decline to five; Mets can't find way to make a living. "Only three other Met teams had ever started 0-4 [before 2024], and the last one to do it was the 1964 outfit, which began 0-4. So this year’s crop has now passed them. Next up is the 1963 group, which began 0-8. And then of course, the ’62 version...Heilman, taking the mound instead of the injured Kris Benson, put the Mets in a quick four-run hole, surrendered five runs in five innings and now owns a career major-league ERA of 6.50 in 20 games...Offensively, the Mets managed just three runs (Jose Reyes’ solo homer to left, Cliff Floyd’s RBI single to right and Kazuo Matsui’s RBI groundout) and have scored five runs in their last three games.
