Starling Marte 1 for 4, double, Stolen Base, 1 run scored, 1 RBI; Francisco Lindor; 2 for 5, 1 RBI, 1 K; J.D. Davis; 2 for 3, HR, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 K; Luis Guillorme; 2 for 4, double, 2 runs scored, 1 K; Tylor Megill; (W, 3-0) 6.2 innings, 2 runs - earned, 5 hits, 1 HR, 1 walk, 7 Ks;
Brian Joura Mets360: Tylor Megill out-battled Mets nemesis Madison Bumgarner and J.D. Davis reached base three times, leading the Mets to a 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks in Arizona Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Mets’ their fifth-straight series win to open the season.
Mike Puma NY Post: Tylor Megill rebounds in big way to lift Mets to series win over Diamondbacks "Megill pitched 6 ²/₃ innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. He was removed after 92 pitches."
Tim Healey Newsday: A notable statistic in the context of Megill’s ongoing development as a pitcher, just 10 months removed from his major-league debut: He totaled six curveballs against the Diamondbacks, according to MLB’s pitch-tracking technology. That was one more than he threw in his first three starts combined. “It allows my fastball to play a little better,” [Megill] said. 'I’ve been working on it, trying to get it game-ready. I threw probably three or four good ones and one that almost hit a guy in the head.'”
Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: Mets win five straight series to begin 2022 season, matching a franchise record. "Hours after Buck Showalter delivered some muddled details regarding Jacob deGrom’s progression, Tylor Megill once again showed that—with him taking deGrom’s place in the rotation—the Mets can afford to bide their time with the two-time Cy Young winner."

Steve Serby NY Post: Plenty of blame to go around for Mets’ ugly Jacob deGrom hangover. “The whole damn team suffered a deGrom hangover, from The Hole In The Bat Gang to The Hole In The Glove Gang, and mostly to Stroman. For Stroman, (for anyone really), this was akin to following prime Sinatra, or prime Springsteen.”
Mike Puma NY Post: “Stroman didn’t have it, his defense didn’t help him, the offense couldn’t bail him out and the Mets lost in ugly fashion to the Nationals, 7-1 in front of a crowd of 8,051.”
Brian Joura Mets360: “Stroman allowed an unearned run in the first inning thanks to an error by Michael Conforto that turned a leadoff single into a runner on third base. Conforto didn’t get charged with an error in the second inning but made another poor throw to the plate on a hit by the pitcher to shallow right field."

NY Post: Rhys Hoskins takes revenge HR trot as Phillies deny Mets sweep. "The Phillies slugger got a rematch with Jacob Rhame from the previous night and delivered retribution, with a two-run homer in the ninth inning that put the icing on the Mets’ 6-0 loss at Citi Field...A night earlier Hoskins was clearly upset at what he perceived as headhunting tactics by Rhame in the ninth inning of a Mets blowout victory."

Daisuke Matsuzaka worked a scoreless ninth to record his first major league save...Chris Young’s first homer in a Mets uniform, a blast into the left-field mezzanine leading off the fifth, made it 1-1. National Pastime.com: For the first time in major league history, four different pitchers combine to walk four consecutive batters when the Marlins hurlers load the bases and then force in a run in a 2-1 loss against the Mets. Josh Johnson walks Lucas Duda, then Randy Choate issues a free pass to Justin Turner, followed by Steve Cishek's base-on-balls to Scott Hairston, and finally, Mike Dunn forces home Josh Thole with the tying run with the last of the only walks given up by the Miami staff in the Citi Field contest.

NY Post: Simply Offensive: Mets Bats useless Vs. Wood and Cubs. "For the second time this year, the Mets were shut out yesterday, this time 3-0 by Wood and the Cubs. The offensive funk continues – the Mets managed just four hits, all singles, and were an abysmal 1-for-10 with runners on base...After the third inning yesterday, the Mets had just one hit, a Kaz Matsui infield single. Even more incredibly, after the third inning, they managed to get just one ball out of the infield, a Mike Piazza fly-out...In the last 50 innings, the Mets have scored more than one run in an inning just once. And in six of their last eight games, they have scored one run or fewer."

NY Post: INJURIES PINCH METS: THINNED BENCH LEADS TO DEMISE "With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Met ace Al Leiter walked to the plate as Johnson returned from the on-deck circle. Admittedly one of the worst hitters in the National League, Leiter was the best option for the injury-strapped Mets at the time. Leiter had allowed two hits through seven innings, and the unavailability of three starters due to injuries – including Mike Piazza – gave Valentine little choice but to take his chances with Leiter at bat. It was little surprise that Leiter struck out against righty Darryl Kile, or that the Mets went on to lose to the Cardinals, 4-2, falling to 11-10 on the year."
