Brian Joura Mets360: "It was too much Logan Webb, as the Giants righty shut out the Mets for eight innings in a 5-1 victory for the Giants Tuesday night in San Francisco. The loss snaps the Mets’ streak of winning five straight series and puts them on a three-game losing streak."

Kiner's Korner: Logan Webb Grounds Mets' Offense In 5-1 Loss. "Luis Severino retired the first 12 batters to face him before running into trouble in the fifth inning...Former Met Michael Conforto broke up Severino's perfect game in the fifth with a pop fly single...Conforto would come around to score the game's first run and is now 4 for 8 with three runs scored in the series."

SNY.TV: Mets' Luis Severino victim of bad luck in loss to Giants. "Severino pitched six innings, giving up three runs, and five hits while striking out five. But that's all Webb and the Giants needed as the Mets could only muster one run."

NY Post: Mets dominated by Giants ace Logan Webb as losing streak hits three. "Suddenly, a road trip that began with so much promise for the Mets — with two straight victories over the Dodgers — is in jeopardy of turning into a disappointment. The Mets need a victory in Wednesday’s series finale to salvage a .500 trip."

Tim Healey Newsday: "They lost to the Giants, 5-1, on Tuesday after scoring their only run in the ninth inning. In their teamwide mini-slump, they have three runs in 28 innings going back to Saturday...Against Webb, a righthander, Mendoza tried to put a platoon advantage in the Mets’ favor by stacking the lineup with seven lefthanded batters, including all of the bottom five (and switch hitter Francisco Lindor). It did not work."

NY Post:

  • Francisco Alvarez likely out eight weeks as Mets set conservative injury plan. "The broad countdown to Francisco Alvarez’s return to the Mets lineup began Tuesday when the catcher underwent surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. Alvarez, according to the team, is expected to need an eight-week rehab — which would place his earliest return into late June."

Commissioner Ford Frick fines Casey Stengel $500 for appearing in uniform for a beer advertisement, which shows the Mets manager ready to bunt. Kathy Kersh, who is holding the ball in the Rheingold ad, will later become better known as Cornelia, one of the Joker's women in the 1960's Batman television series.

1965

Casey Stengel wins his 3,000th game as a manager when his Amazin' Mets score three runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Giants at Candlestick Park, 7-6. The 'Old Perfessor,' who served as the skipper for the Dodgers, Braves, and Yankees, won more than a third of his games (1,149) during his 12-year tenure with the Bronx Bombers.

2012

For the first time in major league history, four different pitchers combine to walk four consecutive batters when the Marlins hurlers load the bases and then force in a run in a 2-1 loss against the Mets. Josh Johnson walks Lucas Duda, then Randy Choate issues a free pass to Justin Turner, followed by Steve Cishek's base-on-balls to Scott Hairston, and finally, Mike Dunn forces home Josh Thole with the tying run with the last of the only walks given up by the Miami staff in the Citi Field contest.

2015: The Yankees snap the Mets' franchise record-tying 11-game winning streak with a 6 -1 win. Jacob deGrom allows three homers, two by Mark Teixeira and the other by Jacoby Ellsbury to be tagged with the loss. Michael Pineda is the winner.
